The Spring I Seek
The Spring I Seek

I have been looking for spring
day and night for years.
It appears for a second
only to disappear.

Every morning, every evening
I look around
trying to catch the sight
of a new leaf, a new bud,
a new hope, another beginning.

She hasn’t appeared yet.
The horizon is dry, the clouds
sail past, listless.
Lawns turned brown,
trees stood motionless.

Things have to move on
I tell myself, life cannot be static, routine bound.
Four seasons fill the year, not just winter.
Some day spring will have to appear
to end my dry season.

Greenery has to come back
joy will return.
Long years of discontent
drudgery and desperation have to end.
