day 27- cool poetry
Someone shared the poem “The Trough” by Judy Brown with me today and I want to pass it on to you. I found it incredibly comforting during this time of global crisis. In your entry today, write about how the poem makes you feel, or write a poem of your own.

Since my poetry is tolerable at best (Go see the Vogon-Grade Poetry folder in my portfolio if you don't believe me. On second thought, don't go see it...), I'll forego an attempt and pen a little reflection here instead.

I loved the poem, I've always admired people who can write by creating images through metaphor without coming off as sappy or ridiculous. Especially if they can use nature in that metaphor- I guess because nature just is what it is. The deep truths of the natural world around us hold a mirror up to our own lives, I think, and it shows us s*** that may not be pretty sometimes. Or s*** that is pretty. If that makes sense?

In this case, I found it comforting as well. Except...

I'm convinced there are people out there on whom this message will be lost. Or at least not understood. That makes me uneasy. I know a lot of people (some of which I'm related to) who use hostility as a defense mechanism, and those kinds of people scoff at the suggestion of choosing to slow down, be mindful, and attempt to learn instead of reacting to their fear.

But people can, and sometimes do change, thank God. I think art can be a catalyst for that. I may send this poem to a few people I know and see what happens...
