April 1 Poem: Historical Object - Calligraphic Exercise

Calligraphic Exercise:
To Baha'u'llah

Written in His childhood,
the exercise establishes
the reality of His existence.

No one can doubt
that God's latest Manifestation
was born--
to a wealthy family--
and raised in Persia.

As I meditate upon the script,
I wonder
about His early childhood
in Tehran,
who tutored Him,
and I cry.

I cry because
the house He was raised in
no longer exists:
it was destroyed
by those who believed
that erasing the home of His birth
would erase His memory,
and His revelation
from the Earth.
