Race Amity Day

It's time for America
to reset its destiny to
E pluribus unum:
Out of Many, One!

America's strength
is in its diversity
and not its conformity.

I,
as a white woman,
have to weed the garden of my soul.
I have to remove the thorns and thistles
that White Privilege1
has planted there
since the day of my birth.

I look at the history
of my country
and realize that,
since the inception of America,
the only lives that mattered
were white male lives;
that black,
brown,
yellow,
red,
and female lives
didn't matter.
