Discussion Onomatopoeia - Silence Roars
Silence Roars

It's a distinctly loud MEOUW,
a long signal saying,
"I've arrived with my prey,
                   come and see!"

I've heard it twice today.

         First, a long M-E-O-U-W
followed by the scuffle of a chase,
next the smacking of tongue on lips
and a lizard head left behind
         on the livingroom floor.

An hour later,
         again, a long M-E-O-U-W,
this time followed by a fluttering,
         and a peep.
I intervened but too late to save it
         but early enough to prevent
         muted feathers flying.

The silent kitty who doesn't purr,
makes her voice heard
         with the mighty ROAR
of the hunter she was born to be.
