it happened in a crosswalk
The light flashed to a stick figure man walking from the upheld hand.
They both stepped into the street unaware of anyone but themselves.
Three steps forward and their eyes met each other.
It was a destined accident.
The universe shook on its foundations.
The fate of many rested on the hope of love.
The queen saw there was but one way to change her own fate.
She stomped on the gas and plowed into the would-be lovers,
just before their fingertips met for the first time.
The universe shuddered as blood splattered the queen's windshield.
She cackled and drove over the bodies.
Her black Cadilac faded to wisps of smoke just a few blocks down.
The crowd milled around the dying couple as their blood mingled and drained away.
