Big Heart
Big Heart

He was a man of towering stature,
Equally lofty and loving by nature.
He looked after us, big and small
Family, elders, outsiders and all.

Our character he built brick by brick
His caring never let us seriously sick
He argued and reasoned using every trick
He geared us well for life’s battles thick.

With the suitable education we got
Fitted us as rivals in the fields we sought
His guidance and courage our lucky lot
The reason we won every war we fought.

Dad knew us all like the books he read
Like the garden he tended
Like the God he worshiped
Like the gift of life he loved.

What will life be without my father
My eyes seek him beyond the distant star
Who will wipe my tears of pain?
Who will console my soul in strain?

My heart longs for his presence
His inspiration and unselfishness.
My only solace I realize
Lies in the golden memories

Of this man with a big heart
My father, of my life an indelible part.
