My blog--I pull a card--if it doesn't speak to me...perhaps it is for you? |
I pull a card...if it doesn't speak to me...perhaps it was meant for you? How to Read the Tarot Begin by brewing a cup of tea, a nervine, lemon balm or chamomile, this is after all, your future. A reading at the dark of the moon is best, before the night creatures crawl and bad humours fill the air. Pick a circular deck, with a fairy-tale motif, and no reversals. Hold a question in your heart, shuffle the cards and place them on the table. Choose only two. Like the ancient Israelites, these are your seer stones, Urim and Thumimm, black and white, yes or no. Isn't that all you were asking? |
Aurora Borealis from Space the Northern Lights are a crown of jewels atop our blue globe. Turn your face to the falling rain.,savor the taste and the blessing. We still have time to turn everything around. Release your dreams. Tarot of the Crone--Ace of Cups--Grace--The seeds of beautiful dreams are planted in you. |
Quantum Matter is a mirage. Our bodies are spinning vibrating atoms, a traffic jam of stardust. Tarot of the Crone--Ace of Wands--Will--The seed and root of your power is in your very life. |
Sanibel Sunday I could not find a scrap of beach glass or even a smooth hag stone on the spit of sand bayside on the causeway. I watched a father tie himself to an inner tube and tow his red-haired daughter through the brackish water. He looked like a young Neptune pulling a reluctant Ariel back to the sea. I wondered if he knew that he would forever be tethered to her heart. Tarot of the Crone--Nine of Swords--Speak truth to power. Speak truth to love. |
Black Mangrove Brackish water seeps through tangled roots, I taste the tears of Mother Earth on the salt-excreted leaves. Tarot of the Crone--Six of Cups--Ritual--Pay attention. Make an altar. |
Quartet Prelude for a dying planet: war and famine. Jazz, rock, rap,hip-hop. A quartet for the end of time. Tarot of the Crone--XX--Calling--Accept your power and your responsibility. |
Mater Dolorosa My beautiful boy drowns in self-loathing. Desolate, weeping Mother Mary, help! Ave, Ave. Tarot of the Crone--Shadow of Cups--Drowning--Rest here, until some understanding is found. |
Easter Monday The pool is empty of people on this Easter Monday, the water glassy, warm, and buoyant as a float tank. I drift into oblivion my only thoughts of death and transfiguration. I twirl widdershins and deosil, my arms heavy as wet angel wings. I limit my time, my skin crisps too easily now and the mockingbirds are taunting me. I promise I will plant them a magnolia tree on the ridge, a safe haven for their fledglings. In spring, a young girl may come to pluck the waxy, fragrant flowers and braid them in her hair. Tarot of the Crone--Shadow of Cups--Drowning--A powerful emotion has flooded all boundaries. Broken down all solid ground. |
Easter Rendezvous I rendezvous with nature in small bites. Tiny, yellow flower umbrels forecast patio tomatoes. Tarot of the Crone--Eight of Swords--Teaching--Use the light of your own mind to turn data into wisdom. |
Work There are no exit ramps on this Camino where the work of the world is love. I hold my patient's dry, papery hand as he is dying and tell him, it is okay to go. Tarot of the Crone--Nine of Wands--Power--The nature and strength of your life, and all life, is to move and change. |
Weather As a child in Pittsburgh, I believed it always rained on Good Friday for the solemn Tenebrae service and that was right and just for my whole world was mourning. This Good Friday, in Paris it will be partly sunny, and warm and humid in Florida. At sunset, I will light a single candle, and listen to Corelli's "Miserere" and pray for rain to wash away the acrid smell of smoke and char. I am frequently astounded by the synchronicity of the Tarot. This morning, as I selected a card at random, I pulled XVI---The Tower--traditional decks depict a large tower in flames. Tarot of the Crone--XVI--Tower--Whatever you have been holding back behind your teeth for too long---scream---and free your voice, and your soul. |
