On sunny Sunday afternoon,
summer breeze whispers in my ear
about the pleasures of riding stream
on magic carpet made of wood.

As we glide along the thoroughfare,
bright rays of sunlight dance
upon ripples of pole dipping

dip, drip, drip
dip, drip, drip
dip, drip, drip

generating sense of serendipity
through Mother Nature's serenade.

From flying dragons and other
psychedelic relics
to paddy wagons at my ex-lover’s
mountain cabin,
anything can happen
when I allow my muse to frolic
in the playpen
of my imagination.

         When matters go astray,
like red rose blooming in a field of weeds,
a simple smile will brighten cloudy day
         and plant some friendship seeds.

         To find a better space
when daily grind begins to wear you down,
just spread your sunshine all over the place
         and lose that ugly frown.

         Restock your spirit cart
by taking up contrasting attitude.
The more you smile, the more you heal the heart
         with dose of mental food.

         We must evaluate
to find a more accommodating style
and never, ever, underestimate
         the power of a smile.

Alarm goes off.
Another day
is underway
to start the week.

The daily grind
with promise bleak,
it makes me shriek
'til Friday comes.

Our mission called,
but weather had us stalled,
until Eisenhower gave the command.
When ramps went down,
we thought that we would drown
before we could traverse the narrow sand.

We hit the beach
and fought like hell to breach
the enemy's fortified resistance.
For days, the battle wailed,
but our forces prevailed,
thanks to our unwavering persistance.

From bloody plot,
some came back, some did not.
We paid a hefty price for victory
when it was done,
without comparison,
forever etched in tomes of history.

Unsuspecting refugee,
who was yearning to be free
from the grip of tyranny,
paid coyote hefty fee
to avoid authority
on quest to reach boundary.

That was just a fantasy.
They ripped him from family
to raise odds, supposedly,
then left him in jeopardy
and flames of hostility.

Very soon, he came to see
a traumatic tapestry
of emotional debris.
Hunger, heat, and misery
line the trail to liberty,
so he struggled until he
met his final destiny.

The gentle peace of garden toil,
away from all that social roil,
provides the exercise I need
in tilling soil and planting seed.

My garden is the empty page,
in line with my advancing age.
I'm sowing seeds of poetry
and nurturing their growth with glee.
