Prologue; Eternity is a very long time to live, trust me I would know… My name is Amara, which is Greek for Eternally beautiful. I am immortal, and unlike popular belief my immortality does not come form the supposed ‘fountain of eternal life’ that is a myth that I laugh at quite regularly, believe me there is no such fountain; nor is there any other way to grant immortality any mortal being anywhere on this world. If there were I would know of it, After all I have every corner of this world permanently etched in my brain; but that tends to happen when you’ve been around for as long as I have… 6,530 years to be exact. I was born the same as any other human, except I’m not any other human. I am of 100 others on this world who were all chosen randomly by the one who controls all living things… mother nature herself, known by any other name as Gaia. We were chosen all in one generation 8,530 years ago but that’s all we remember of our origins, at birth Gaia granted us immortality and powers that most mortals couldn’t imagine. But you may ask ‘why were we granted these powers?’ In a way you could describe us as ‘peacekeepers’ who spread understanding and free will across the world but to be perfectly honest our job is to prevent the ‘Apocalypse’ and if you are unfamiliar with the word it basically means ‘the end of the world’; because it is in mankind’s nature to destroy itself, for humans are the worlds most destructive force. Gaia knows us as ‘guardians’. We look and act like normal people and blend in to normal society; all the while we are watching, for there is little that escapes our eyes. We take the form of simple teenagers aging in appearance and identity from the ages of 15-18, I am known to the world as an average 16-year-old Caucasian girl with an appearance consisting of; Auburn shoulder length hair which I got cut and layered because that’s seems to be the modern style, and deep blue eyes the colour of warm marsh water with bold hints of silver (the silver is characteristic of all guardians). I currently go to high school in a regular Canadian high school called ‘Edmon Field High’ were I am re-doing high school for like the 1000th time already (not exactly but I’m sure I’m getting close). So if you listen I’ll tell you my story and let you see the life of a guardian. |
