Set in the ruins of Chicago in 2050 after epidemics, climate change, and natural disasters have destroyed much of the infrastructure, and 95% of the population. In the aftermath, the few survivors are faced with the problem and potential of building a new local and ultimately a new world community. Jerrod and Claudia break through the paranoia which has built up through years of disease and violence, developing relationships with one person at a time to build a working group and a future for those who remain.
