Thank you for your comment. I agree that many contests do not promote as much as they can. I use the WDC contest section, news feed, and group emails to request my members to promote the contest.

I believe this contest is best run every two years to give members the chance to improve their writing skills.

I look forward to seeing an entry from you in September.

I tend to be prolific, especially with poetry, so I just move on. My stories however... usually remain unedited or not quite finished. There should be a few that could be resurrected.

Make sure to promote the contest before and during September. Too many contests are not promoted adequately.

I never forget Rising Star, I still feel those excitement when my poem won there and been published.

I must agree with you about blogging. I wasn't a daily blogger but enjoyed making announcements via blog posts. I'm not even sure why I stopped using it. I'll have to try harder to remember it from now on.

We all change over time. However, the Rising Stars program is so well put together I couldn't believe it was gone.

Contests, forums, support groups, members... come and go.

I lament for Blogvlle. Blogging is dead here imho. But then, at least three of the bloggers (Ken, Barbara, David [aka Tor]) are too.

I guess one should be thankful for the memories of what-once-was and for what remains.

Hi Sisco! I have to say you are one busy guy. I don't know how you find time for it all! One thing that I've noticed and really admire about you is that you take time to thank EVERYONE! Thats a very honorable trait.
I'm also glad I found this blog because I am now interested in joining the Newbie Academy! It sounds like a lot of fun. So without further ado, I'm rushing off to enlist!

How very lovely you had so many friends that care about you and celebrated your 5th anniversary with you. And how they all grieve with you over the loss of your father. It is indeed a hard time to go through, especially on holidays, birthdays and the likes. God bless you and he will see you through it all.

It is wonderful to see so many people celebrated your Anniversary with you! What a lovely way to mark such a special occasion. I love the WDC journal that Fran sent your way, what a wonderful way to celebrate.

Congratulations on such a successful auction this year, you have the magical touch!

I am so sorry to hear about your dad, I somehow missed hearing of his passing. My sincerest condolences my friend. First anniversaries of special occasions without our loved one(s) are always the hardest, I can only imagine that is compounded being on the actual holiday. Know my heart, thoughts and prayers are with you this holiday season my friend. I hope that this last year of learning to love in absence helps to make Christmas Day a day to celebrate your fathers life, accomplishments, loves and happy memories of Christmas' past.

For me personally switching my mindset from death and loss to learning to love in absence and celebrate my sons life has made a huge difference for me. I stopped focusing on all that we lost and all of the occasions we would not celebrate together and started focusing on his accomplishments and all of the amazing and wonderful memories we created each day and year we had together.

If you haven't thought of it this way before I hope that this gives you some food for thought and maybe a gift to be had in this way of thinking. If this is the way you have thought this past year then I hope it has brought you the same comfort it has my husband and I.

Newbie Academy 2021

While sifting through the mountains of items in "Invalid Item" and updating everything before we officially reopen on June 1st, I found this and remembered why I started the group.
