I sat with a wise-old Swede recently lamenting about my inability to make good choices... or just choices.

I said that I liked Sisaket (in Isaan, Thailand) better than here... He said... then go. What about my loneliness? "Someone there will be attracted to you."

He also mentioned his many romantic failures, including one girlfriend of 3 years who slashed him. *sigh* He has a new one. We met. I like her.

I would never hope that anyone was treated unfairly, but I get the point of his message.

The "this too shall pass" has helped me many a time.

Living in the present is a challenge, I agree, but sometimes it's good to just Zen out the world....even for 5 minutes at a time.

There's a song I think about every time I hear "nothing stays the same." It's by Patty Loveless, and it's called How Can I Help You Say Goodbye. Life definitely changes. I have a tough time living in the present. It's hard not to fall back into the past or worry about the future.

Sometimes living in the moment feels like ground hog day with Bill Murray for me. I keep trying to see the positive but it is challenging.

There are many days when I don't wax so philosophical.

I do think that we are capable of learning lessons; it's just that sometimes I'm a tad slow.

Day Two: Worst Present Ever

Who gives a pink bedspread to a daughter who's husband clearly would not like it
What thought goes into that gift?
Think fuzzy Pepto Bismal in King size splendor....
I don't even like pink
It's far too girly even for me
You gotta wonder how much thought goes into my mother's gifts
Or was she thinking it funny?
My husband, at the time stayed quiet
But he was not impressed
He told me exactly what he thought after our guests left.
His dislike of my mother grew
How could mom figure I would put it on our bed
I didn't even put the wedding ring quilt on our marriage bed
And it only had a bit of pink mixed in with lovely greens
It was relegated to the spare room
Now it has a place of honour
On my bed.... but that husband...
He's long gone
And so is that ugly pink bedspread.
Gone Sally's way.
