The tales of Serus and Edoria from Jorja's point of view.
Jorja Antigone Drake is a descendant of the Aster bloodlines. She resides on the Edorian side of the veil and is blissfully unaware of the destructive power she holds within. She was born to fringe Aster family members who migrated to Edoria generations ago. They refused to be bound in service to the Merritt praedari and hid in Edoria to avoid the death sentence that refusal would carry. The Edorian Asters turned away from their deadly arts and, instead, focused on healing ones. Many of the most skilled midwives and healers of the last few hundred years have carried the Aster blood.

Within the last three to four generations, many Asters have turned their focus away from magic and have their eyes toward the future. Potions have been replaced by prescriptions. Very few highly-skilled midwives are in practice due to the industrial and technological revolutions. What was once essential to life in the wilderness has been nearly swallowed up by progress.

She knows of her family's history as healers, midwives, and spiritual mediums. She actually has an aptitude for potions and was taught the basics of brewing healing elixirs by her grandmother who was herself highly skilled in the healing arts and midwifery. She found little excitement in practical magic and, instead, steered her life in the general direction of working to make a living for herself.

Jorja also understands that those that join her will not be full-blooded Aster witches, but as long as one drop of Aster blood flows through their veins, they can be molded into the powerful killing machines that are needed to survive the impending war.

Note:These entries have not yet been revised. I plan to do so eventually, but I have trouble with the revising process. I don't really like to read over my writing as it makes me feel self conscious. I'll do it eventually, but it will take some time.

Trying to muddle her way through the writings of her ancestors was something Jorja hadn't planned on doing when she woke up this morning, but she'd had all I could stand. She understood her family's history as spiritual mediums, but she&#... [Read more]
