This image was created by the talented by Sharmelle's Expressions! Prompt: Good morning starship

I just got back from an away mission to a star I have known for sometime. Today's star is Lilith of House Martell (873)

The prompt is from her blog "Yes, we are family, but..."

The prompt is "Who really understands why two people from the same home turn out so differently?"

What do you think makes people from the same family turn out so differently? "

I think a lot of it has to do with psychology. Yes. Two people can be raised in the same household. Yes. Those two people do often experience the same things. However, each of us reacts to stimuli in different ways. One of us may see a snake for example and think "Oh, how cute!"

Another person may see the same snake and be frightened. It all depends on the person. You also must consider that even though two people do grow up in the same household the two people do not have 100% identical experiences. For example, they both go to school and attend different classes. Those experiences make us different.

Another thing that makes us different is our DNA. No two human beings share the same DNA except identical twins. Even among identical twins you will find differences of personality. Some researchers believe that personality types are encoded like DNA. In twin studies these encodings are not always identical. More research needs to be done.

Finally, the physical DNA itself is different in non-identical twinned individuals. Some of us may get a recessive gene from our parents that completely misses the rest of the family. For example, I have bi-polar I disorder which has been linked to heredity. Yet I am the only one of nine children in my family with this disorder.

Let this quote inspire your blog entry."

I would agree with Kubler-Ross both concretely and abstractly. In the real world sense stained glass is the most beautiful when lit from within after darkness sets in. I remember seeing a lot of these older churches and how beautiful they look after dark with light shining through their stained glass windows.

In the abstract sense, Kubler-Ross is again correct because the darkness around us makes the goodness within us shine like stained glass. I am a Christian and I count on that being the case.

Miguel de Unamuno
What are your thoughts on self-deception? What do you think it is, and do you or others do it often?"

I was the master of self-deception for the longest time. I spent years feeling sorry for myself, whining in my beer, and throwing pity parties. Finally, I woke up. I began working a 12 step program and still try to maintain integrity and self-honesty to this day.

to have some very interesting specimens about what to do in a crisis. One of the pieces of advice was "The news media are NOT you're friends."

Do you agree or disagree? Why?

I agree with Shadow Prowler-Spreading Love . I have watched the talking heads quite a few times lately and for about the first thirty seconds they tell you the facts. Then they go to twisting those facts to meet their own agenda. On Fox News you can count on their twisting the news to make the Republican Party look good. On CNN you can count on them twisting the news to make the Democrats look good. Every newscaster has their own agenda and their agenda biases the news. The days of Walter Cronkite are over.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs "Prompt: “Life is really simple, but men insist on making it complicated.” — Confucius
Is life simple or complicated?"

I would have to say that in my case Confucius is spot on. You see I had a car wreck when I was younger. In the wreck, I sustained a compression fracture of the 4th cervical vertebra in my neck. My head also smashed out my side glass, fracturing my skull in the process. Thank God I was wearing my seat belt or it would have killed me. The injury sustained caused damage to the left frontal lobe of my brain. As a result, I get easily confused when following multi-step or written instructions. As a result of this, I often end up doing way more than is necessary. How often have you ever heard of professors in graduate school telling a student they are overstudying or doing too much homework? All three of my professors this semester have told me I was way overdoing the exercises. They have sent work back to me, telling me very specifically which parts to keep and which parts to turn in. One professor said that if all his students were as diligent he would only have time to grade the papers for that class alone.

Blog City image small "Prompt: For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven-- Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
Since it is so, spiritually speaking, why do you think our planet now has this Covid 19 pandemic?"

Originally, I thought the pandemic was the result of man's attitudes toward God of late. We have been legalizing all sorts of things that God's word specifically points out as "sin". I thought COVID-19 was sent as retribution for that sin just as God used plagues and conquering countries in the Old Testament to bring people in line.

Then I did more research on the subject and I am now convinced that COVID-19 is one of the many results of the fall of Adam. When man fell God plunged the entire realm of nature into a cycle of death and decay because He loved man so much that He was not willing for man to take the fall alone. Therefore chaos began to abound in nature. Every action, both good or bad has a ripple effect. It reaches out and touches others. Everything is affected by this. COVID-19 is a natural event caused as a result of the sin of man.

Science Fiction and the Literature of Ideas
#997450 by Robert Waltz

Prompt: The dictionary definition of “science fiction” is “fiction dealing principally with the impact of actual or imagined science upon society or individuals; broadly : literary fantasy including a scientific factor as an essential orienting component” [Webster's Third New International Dictionary, Unabridged. Merriam-Webster, 2002.]

Do you think today's science fiction is tomorrow's science fact?

Yes. I believe today's science fiction is tomorrow's science fact. I say that because I wrote science fiction as a child. I wrote about hand held phones that you could use in a car on a mountain top. Today we call them cell phones. I wrote about using a computer to order groceries. Today we have the Internet. These were science fiction fifty years ago. So today's science fiction will someday be a reality.

The prompt is "If I had a wall I would write on it."

If you had a blank wall what would you write on it?

If I had a blank wall I probably would not write on it at all because I am not an artist by any stretch of the imagination. My drawing skills are nil and my painting skills are even worse. If I could write on a blank wall though it would probably be pictures of loved ones, Jesus definitely. I would draw a picture of the crucifixion of Jesus to remind the world of what He did for them. I am a seminary student and my goal is to help spread the good news about Jesus and his death, burial, and resurrection.

Blog City image small Prompt: "Imagination is not something we merely do in our spare moments, an idle act but the very faculty that makes us who we are. Think about people that deny the existence of dragons are often eaten by dragons. From Within."`~ David Naimon

Discuss this quote."

There is a saying in 12 step programs that "Denial is not just a river in Egypt."

I would say that anybody who denies dragons should be eaten by one. I have a pet one myself. I named him Fireball. He's always causing fires. Poor thing sneezes and catches everything ablaze.

Let this quote inspire your blog post.

Maybe it's just that I didn't get a wink of sleep last night so I'm groggy, but I never did like Peter Pan and there is no Neverland.

Welcome... Prompt: "What Time is It? Write about the time of day it is right now. What are people doing? What do you usually do at this time each day?"

It's 9:00AM. I'm usually blogging right about now.

In the final analysis, having a dream is often more pleasurable than attaining it.
#2217323 by Adeline

The first specimen that came along caught my eye. So the prompt for today is:

"In the final analysis, having a dream is often more pleasurable than attaining it."

What do you think? Do you agree? Why or why not?

I think that Adeline is spot on. We often dream about things and the dreams are much bigger than reality. I remember lots of times of dreaming about something happening and then when it did it turned out to be such a let down. At other times the reality was everything I thought it would be, but usually the dream is much more glamorous than the reality is.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs Prompt: "Remember those long summer afternoons sitting outside with Sun In in your hair? Tell about your best (or worst!) hair moments."

I'm a man so I really don't give a rat's tail what my hair looks like as long as it isn't long and stringy. Even when long hair was cool I typically kept mine cut either crew-cut style or high and tight. I did let it grow out once just so it would be long enough to put a perm in. I wanted to see what I would look like with curly. The perm looked okay but what really looked god was when the perm loosened and left my hair wavy. I went to a friends house and had the perm done. He was a Hollywood hairstylist and told me the job he did on my hair would usually cost $5,000.00 but since I was not living in Beverley Hills, he did it for free. I was also going to a family member's funeral and my friend wanted me to look good. I did indeed look good. I had a pair of aviator sunglasses I wore along with a fashion sweater and the works. Nobody in my family recognized me and I didn't say a word about who I was. Finally, I said something to my grandmother because she didn't know me either. I realized that when she started flirting with me! I said "Grandma! What is getting into you?"

She looked at me shocked and embarrassed and said "I didn't even recognize you! *Bigsmile*

Blog City image small Prompt: "Give us a taste of summer – either through a recipe, or a memory or story that expresses summer to you."

Nothing expresses summer to quite like a fresh tomato sandwich or BLT followed by a slice of cold watermelon and canteloupe. Now that is a summertime meal. Throw in some fresh green beans and corn on the cob and it becomes a summertime feast.

This image was created by the talented by Sharmelle's Expressions! Prompt sent by Princess Megan Rose GOT Fox

Stardate: June 25, 2020 Prompt: "Prompt: Write about a conversation you had with a person on a plane or on a train."

I have never ridden a train so I never had a conversation on a train. Airplanes I have flown in quite a bit. I was a scanner/observer with the USAF Auxilliary or Civil Air Patrol. The scanner is responsible for watching the ground and conducting a thorough search pattern that goes a certain way across the surface of the ground. You do this to search for missing aircraft or other targets.

The Observer is the person who flies in the right seat beside the pilot. They are the commander of the search team. They monitor radios and if possible scan out the right side of the aircraft for targets. Their primary job is communication with the ground team. If a target is spotted the observer directs the ground team to the target. I qualified as an observer and was a second lieutenant.

The typical conversations on the aircraft were about the searches or the location of landmarks. We typically flew using Visual Flight Rules or VFR so we were interested in landmarks and so forth. This was particularly important when you were flying a grid pattern. In a grid pattern, you continually fly over the same terrain. You vary your pattern on the return trip across the pattern by putting the opposite wingtip in the same air space the other wingtip occupied before. Most of the conversations on board had to do with the search.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs Prompt: "How do you beat the heat? Give us some ideas for cool summer fun."

I typically stay inside and write or study. When I was young I worked a lot during the summer. I held summer jobs every year until I was an adult. If I did have fun as a child it would be going down and swimming in the creek. I've even taken a bath in the creek a few times. Then off course we made sure we drank plenty of fluids as well.

Blog City image small "Prompt: "Books are the bees which carry the pollen from one mind to another." James Russell Lowe Use this quote in your Blog entry today."

I would agree with that statement. Books plant ideas into the mind.

My Wish  (E)

.

The specimen (blog prompt) is "If you had three wishes, what would they be?"

If I had three wishes my first wish would be that Christianity would be the only religion on earth. I'm sure people would still turn away from Jesus, but they would not have as many "choices."

My second wish would be that everybody would hear the gospel of Jesus Christ and respond to it.

My third wish would be that everybody would treat everybody else with love and respect. This would end all the injustice and wrong in the world. Of course, none of that will happen but that would be my wish.

Image #1971183 over display limit. -?- "Prompt: You have two billion dollars in your checking account. How did you get it?"

If I woke up with that much money in my account it would be a bank mistake. I wouldn't get real excited about it because I would know that somebody screwed up and I would lose it. At least for a few minutes, I would know what it felt like to be a billionaire.

Image #1997652 over display limit. -?- Prompt: "What kind of ending do you prefer to read: the happy ending, the tragic ending, the change of heart ending, or the be careful what you wish for? Why? Which matrix attracts your own writing?"

I prefer a happy ending. Sad endings make me cry. Be careful what you wish for is too much like reality for me. The tragic ending is heartbreaking and would make me cry. The change of heart might work, depending on whether it is a good change or bad. I am writing so many term papers now I don't have much time for anything else.

The specimen the introduction, which says "Sometimes the loneliest place is in a crowd."

Do you get lonely in crowds? Why or why not?

I woke up this morning with a nose bleed. I take a blood thinner and will take it the rest of my life so bleeding can be a tricky situation for me. That is why the prompt was late.

The prompt says that sometimes the loneliest place is in a crowd. It asks if I have ever been lonely in a crowd. The answer is yes. Due to difficulties growing up I never really learned to attach. I learned later on that attachment and friendship mean making oneself vulnerable but when I was younger I was unwilling to do that. I never had the friends I longed for as a young adult because I was afraid to let go of past hardships. I was always afraid of getting hurt. Being a friend means taking chances and learning to trust and forgive. Those lessons came hard for me.

Image #1997652 over display limit. -?- Prompt: Use these words in your blog entry: Rose, Honeysucle, pink, wisdom, peace.

My dad used to talk about a woman named Honeysuckle Rose. I never did figure out if Rose was her name and he just called her Honeysuckle or what the connection was. At times she came across as bit of wisdom he was passing along. She sure was a colorful woman. I don't know if pink was one of those colors or not.

Image #1971183 over display limit. -?- "Prompt: Do you think a novel influences change in society? Do you think Harper Lee’s, To Kill A Mockingbird,or any other novel you know of ever achieved such a change?"

I don't know that novels influence any change, but I do know the talking heads on the television carry a lot of weight and influence with people. I have watched more than one situation where the talking heads have escalated things. For example the recent protests have been media influenced. I would just about guess that half the people protesting did not even know what they were protesting about. The other half were mainly stirred up because the talking heads told them they should be. People are followers when what we need are leaders. We need leaders who will stand up for godly values.

a mother knows best  (E)
being a mother can be for everyone
#2190295 by Samberine Everose

The prompt: Do you think a mother knows best?

Captain's blog:

I think a mommy knows best but I make a distinction between a mommy and a mother. Any woman physically capable can get pregnant. Pregnancy however does not necessarily make a mother. What makes a mother is love and nurture. A lot of women get pregnant and have a child and then neglect it. Worse yet they get pregnant and abort the child before it has a chance. Children need love and care. Some women just are not capable of giving that love and care just as some men are not capable. Some men want to have all the fun of making babies but do not want to care for them. There are deadbeat fathers and dead beat mothers. Neither are parents.

Image #1997652 over display limit. -?- "Prompt: "People don't notice whether it's winter or summer when they're happy." Anton Chekhov
Does your mood determine whether or not you notice the weather? Does the weather have an effect on your mood?"

I don't know that my mood so much determines whether I notice the weather or not, but I do know the weather affects my mood. I have seasonal affective disorder. I need a certain amount of sunshine to function at one hundred percent effectiveness. If I don't get enough sunlight I can become lethargic and despondent. I get depressed. My energy drains quickly and my mood is foul. I also prefer seeing everything green with blue skies as opposed to the drab of winter. Summer is definitely my favorite season as long as I have air conditioning. Even when I didn't though I preferred summer because I respond much better to it.

There is something you can do for seasonal affective disorder. Large quantities of vitamin D3 have proven effective to combat it along with exposure to sunshine or a lightbox. The lightbox has to be built to radiate a certain amount of lumens and you stand in front of it for twenty minutes per day. Some people exercise in front of it. The vitamin D3 is something I take. I usually take about 5,000 units per day but you can take much more. Your body will expose of the excess.

Image #1971183 over display limit. -?- "Prompt: Taking off from the saying, ““you only get one chance to make a first impression” logic, why, do you think, a first impression, a first line in an article, or the first paragraph of chapter in a book can be the most important?"

I would say the first page is the most important. I will usually read about a page before I determine if I am going to read any further. As a tip though, I have had several editors and agents tell me that they will read for about 30 seconds before determining if they are going to read farther. With that in mind, your introduction needs to really make a splash. This is why a lot of publishers put an excerpt from the climax of a book on a page that comes even before the introduction. They want to hook you and they know they have about 30 seconds to do so.

Memories can be both good or bad. Of course, bad memories can also be good if they are "framed" properly. By that, I mean that a bad memory can be turned into something good if we look at it from the right perspective. Are there bad memories in my mind. Not any more. Did I ever experience anything bad? I have been shot at, I have been stabbed, I have been beaten to a pulp, I have been in horrible car wrecks, I have been the first responder to even worse accidents. So yes, my mind has plenty of horrible memories. Those horrible memories, however, are part of what made me who I am today. If one second of my life had been different I would not be who I am. I like who I am. So even the bad memories are precious to me.
