For my blog "Prompt: Do you feel there are barriers of some type separating you from God? What can you do to get them removed?"

We all get those barriers occasionally. They are usually due to sin. There are times God simply withdraws to test our faith. The idea of a test is not to prove anything to God. He already knows the answer. The test is to prove our faith to us. God promises "I will never leave you", Hebrews 13:5. We can count on that and I do count on that. I know that even when I am so far from being godly that I think God certainly wants no part of me, He is still right there with me because He never leaves me. It doesn't make any difference what I do, God will never leave me.

Write about infinity in your Blog entry today.

Infinity is a figure eight symbol on its side for a reason. The reason is that infinity goes on forever. It has no beginning and no end. In fact, God is infinity because God has no beginning and no end.

For my blog "Prompt: Are you comfortable with what you understand to be God's guidelines and laws for living?"

Does it really matter? If I am comfortable or not does not change the fact that it is still God's Law. By His very nature my opinion does not count. I am not comfortable with the fact that untold numbers of people will burn in hell forever either. I don't comprehend how a loving God could do that. On the other hand it is not for me to understand. It is God's judgment call. His thoughts are higher than my thoughts and his understanding is way above mine. On my clearest, most coherent days my thoughts do not even approach god's understanding and thinking. So I don't question God. I just do my best to obey Him.

Tell us about heights and mountains.

I don't do good with heights. I have a form of vertigo and when I am up high I freeze up. My brothers and I were on a roof once and I had an anxiety attack because I felt like I was falling. It took my brothers twenty minutes to talk me down off of the roof. It was three stories high and I have not climbed since. I see no need in climbing. On the other hand, I absolutely love flying. I was part of the flight crew with the Parkersburg Composite Squadron, West Virginia Wing, Unites States Air Force Auxiliary, in Parkersburg WV. I was a scanner and and observer. I flew the right seat on most missions and operated the search equipment and communications as well as navigation. I was the crew chief, although the pilot was the captain of the aircraft itself. I loved that job. When I was onboard I always felt free and the sights were beautiful. I also looked very dapper in my flight suit and aviator glasses. A lot of people told me I resembled Tom Cruise in Top Gun. Like him I wore a uniform with a jumpsuit over top of it, my lieutenant bars shining on my shoulders, an air force officer's "C" cap, flight boots, and topped it all off with a pair of Air Force regulation aviator sunglasses. My wife always told me she wanted to stuff me and keep me preserved that way. I was always a big hit with the ladies when i was in uniform. One time I wore my uniform to a costume party for Halloween. I won $1,000.00!
Anyway, heights and I have an odd relationship. I don't do mountaintops or rooftops and the big cities make me dizzy looking at skyscrapers, yet I always loved being between angels four-five and angels three seven zero (4,500 feet and 37,000 feet) strapped to the co-pilot's seat. Go figure? I think it was because I have anxiety disorder and the first time I had a panic attack was when my brothers and I were working on the roof. Then my mind sort of associated the attack with rooftops and ladders and I have had a phobia ever since.

For my blog "Prompt: What do you imagine that God is like?"

I do not need to imagine anything. All I have to do is open my Bible and read the four gospels to get a glimpse of the Person of God. Jesus said "If you have seen me, you have seen the Father for the Father and I are one."

This statement eventually got Him killed.

I want to wish my son Kevin a happy 21st birthday!

For my blog "Prompt: When you have problems or crises, how do you manage to get through them?"

When I have a problem, which is rarely, I do everything in my power to solve it. Then when I realize I am only wasting my time, I come to my senses and give it to God. I recently lost one of my hearing aides while cleaning my room. My first thought was that I had swept it up and threw it in the trash. A friend and I went through the trash three times and could not find it. I sat down frustrated and told God that He knew where the hearing aid was and that I needed it badly. 30 seconds later I found it.

God will not move until we give up.

For my blog "Prompt: How do you feel about your upbringing and your awareness of spiritual things? How would you describe your life with God now?"

When I was very young, just a toddler, my parents went to church regularly. My dad was the deacon and led singing. Then he was accused of a crime that was later proven he did not commit. He did four years in prison and it sort of ruined him. He got out and we attended church off and on for awhile. Then my sister died as a toddler and we never went back. I was saved when I was 18 fell away quickly. I was saved for real at the ripe old age of nine but walked away. Even though i walked away Jesus never left me. He saw me through overdoses, car wrecks, heart attacks, and many other things that should have killed me because He had designs on my life. Today, I am in seminary with a 3.94 GPA going into my third year. I am a preacher and God has given me a glimpse of a spectacular future.

This sounds like my sister and I. We had a bicycle on which the chain had broken on the way home. She was riding in the handlebars. We were at the top of a hill with a huge turn at the bottom on a bike with no brakes. We took off down this hill, about a half mile down. She was in the handlebars so I could barely steer and had no brakes. We were going so fast there was no way to stop. We hit the S turn at the bottom of the grade doing at least fifty. I tried to steer through the turn and up the oncoming hill. Instead we missed the turn, went into the forest, hit a log and flipped the bike. I cut my arm and she bloodied her mouth and chipped a tooth. She rose from the ground bloody and laughing and said "Let's push it back to the top and do it again."

We would have but I had broken my wrist and could no longer grip the handlebar to balance the bike.

For my blog "Prompt: Do you give much thought to God and spiritual things? Tell me about your most memorable spiritual experience."

Oh my! That is a really tough question because every day is a memorable spiritual experience for me. I really don't think I can narrow it down to any specific day. I have been a Christian off and on for over forty years. I guess my most memorable experience was the day I realized that God had never left me and had protected me through all the bad times.

Bamboo is amazing. It is a versatile plant that can grow nearly anywhere. A man in a city I lived in north of here brought some bamboo from Southeast Asia and transplanted in in his yard. What a mistake! The bamboo has nearly taken over the neighborhood! It multiplies rapidly.

God wants us to take delight in his Word. I used to find the Bible boring and repetitive and redundant. Thank God this has changed for me now. Now I love his Word. I prefer it. I look forward to spending time in it. What are some things we can do to keep or renew our interest in the Bible so we can delight in God's Word?"

I think the main thing we can do is be saved to begin with. Paul says that God's word is foolishness to the unsaved and that is very true. There are times even today when I find the Bible hard to read, and that is usually because there is some sin in my life. The Holy Spirit cannot tolerate sin, though He sees all sin. He will withdraw when we sin and without Him the word of God makes no sense. So the first thing we need to do is confess and repent.

Once we do that it is also good to take correspondence courses. I took hundreds of them before entering seminary. After that, I sat under a learned teacher for two years. I also read the Bible cover to cover numerous times, reading many versions. I am currently reading the New Living Translation and plan to read the New Revised Standard Version next.

Shelter in Place  (ASR)

What did you do during the lockdown?

I live at the WV Veterans Home, so we have "Shelter in place" drills all the time, particularly since our facility is less than a mile from a maximum security penitentiary. The Western Regional Jail is just a few blocks from here and since it houses inmates from several counties, it is a maximum security lock up. Therefore, our facility does "active shooter", bomb threat, and other drills periodically. It's actually a good idea for everybody to preplan for disasters and other contingencies. You never know what is going to happen next and the world gets wilder every day. One of my big things at the moment is working to rebuild my credit. I was convinced by people when I was younger that I was "disabled" and I let that lie lead me to a life of nothingness. My credit went to pot. Now I am rebuilding it for a "rainy day." I have brought it up almost 300 points over two years. It isn't perfect but it's in the "good" range today. Shelter in place can be a good practice just as it is good to take first aid and CPR. I need to renew my "stop the bleed" training. I use to be an emergency medical technician and the methods I learned are now obsolete. I took "Stop the bleed" about two years ago and was surprised to find that they use tourniquets now. My favorite was the CAT or Combat Arms Tourniquet. It's simple to apply.

Image #2249882 over display limit. -?- "Prompt: How do my thoughts and actions affect God? How do they make him feel?"

I'm not really fond of the way this particular prompt is worded. It is worded as if to say that I, a mere human, can influence and manipulate God. On the other hand, there is merit because even the Bible says that humans do have the ability to make God feel a certain way. For example, Paul says we can "grieve the Holy Spirit" Ephesians 4:30. So man can influence God. We can rouse Him to anger and we can bring forth His love. I try to monitor my thoughts, words, and deeds to bring them captive to the Lord. In doing so I please Him.

Image #2249882 over display limit. -?- Prompt: "What would you do or how would you respond if Jesus asked you if you love him 3 times like he did Peter?"

What many fail to realize in this passage is the peter used two or three different Greek words to respond to Jesus. The first Greek word Peter used was "philia" from which we derive the name of Philadelphia and means "brotherly love." Jesus wanted a deeper commitment from Peter so he asked again. The second time Peter used a Greek word that means a type of sacrificial love. In other words, he told Jesus that he loved Jesus enough to go the extra mile with Jesus or make small sacrifices for Jesus. Jesus wanted a deeper commitment yet and at this point peter realized that Peter loved Jesus enough to die for Jesus. Thus Peter was "grieved" over Peter's original denial of Jesus.

Yes. I do find it easy. I can always find a reason to praise God. The very fact that I can even draw a breath is a praise report. I would not even exist without God. So He gets all my praise. I find it hard to believe that anybody could have trouble worshiping God. It is an instinct to do so. I feel pity for such people. Heaven is going to be awful for them! All we do in heaven is worship Jesus.

I have looked up some of my ancestors on Ancestry.com and found that I had a great grandfather who served as a battalion commander of the 36th Ohio Division during the Civil War. He was assigned to General Meade which means he fought at Gettysburg. He was an artillery commander, meaning he ordered the cannons around. He himself would not have given the orders to fire since he was a colonel. He would have reported directly to General Meade in Gettysburg. He probably knew President Grant and may have met Lincoln.
