Pause
April 2, 2017 at 11:38pm
I take a moment to pause And smell the sweet scent of rain. The air is crisp and fresh As I walk down the lane. The trees and grass flourish Becoming a vibrant shade of green. The flowers peak out of their buds And in the sun they preen. Winter is coming to a close And Spring is in the air. I pause once more to sigh And say a little prayer. May the new life of this season Bring happiness and peace. May all the world’s hatred Breathe in and finally cease. Written for: P... [Read more]

DAY 1577: March 11, 2017 - Angela Death
March 11, 2017 at 10:15pm
DAY 1577: March 11, 2017 Prompt: It's looking and sounding like spring in Las Vegas. The birds are singing and building their nest in almost every tree in town. What are some of the first signs of spring where you live? If you live in a part of the world that is experiencing autumn. What are some of the first signs of autumn? Well, you know it's Spring in Texas when it seriously doesn't stop raining... Like ever... The bees are out, along with those nasty blood suckers (... [Read more]
SICK! SICK! DYING!
February 17, 2017 at 1:04am
I've been sick for going on two weeks now. I was off of work for a month to help with my mother who passed away on January 11th. I work as a security officer at a hospital, went back to work and managed to get sick almost immediately after. I worked for a few days, then went to the ER because I wasn't doing too well, got put on antibiotics and steroids, started feeling better, went back to work for another few days, and then ended back in the ER to receive ANOTHER round of antibiotics... Talk Tuesday! If you had a "spirit animal" that wasn't an animal, what would yours be? (Pretty sure mine's a burrito in case anyone asks, but no one is and I could be totally wrong ). And what would you think some of your fellow bloggers' "spirit animals (that aren't animals)" are? Privately, I believe my real spirit animal is a tiger. But, what would it be if it wasn't an animal? A novel? But which novel? The ones that come to mind are {x-l... [Read more]
Privacy
January 21, 2017 at 3:42pm
Privacy? What's that? Is it that thing I had before having children? I'm uncertain. It's been eighteen years, so I seriously don't recall anymore. Since they've been born, I've shared my life with them, my home with them, my bedroom with them. When they were infants, I always had to share bathroom time with them. I remember taking them into the bathroom, strapped in their car seats, so I was able take a shower. Privacy is undoubtedly a thing of the past w... [Read more]

War Chest Wednesday! From a previous challenger... What are some things you would put in a time capsule to be opened up one, twenty, and/or fifty years from now that shows the person you are today? The journal my daughter gave to me that I plan on writing letters to her in. The poem "Do Not Stand at my Grave and Weep" for my mother who passed away on January 11, 2017. I would also include pictures of my family to show how much they are loved.... [Read more]

Talk Tuesday! What's your opinion on high school reunions? Have you gone to any? Why (or why not)? I didn't technically graduate high school. I dropped out and got my GED and went on to completed some college courses because of health issues. To be honest, there are so few people that I would even want to associate with from high school, that I don't think it's really that big of a deal that I don't get to attend high school reunions. I actually really love Face... [Read more]

Motivational Monday! Actress Ethel Merman , born on this day back in 1908, once said "I can never remember being afraid of an audience. If the audience could do better, they'd be up here on stage and I'd be out there watching them." How does this quote relate to your blogging? Do you write for any particular audience? I don't necessarily blog for the audience. It's nice to have an audience, but it's not my motivation, per se. I write for myself. Someti... [Read more]
Avoidance
January 14, 2017 at 9:47pm
I need to vent about something, and this is really the only safe place to do so. My mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 Small Cell Carcinoma back in September. In the middle of October she had her first round of chemotherapy. At first she did rather well, but then developed a blood infection that ended her up in the ICU. She was in the ICU until the middle of November. Mind you, all this time we had been calling and updating my brother (who works in Louisiana) on her progress. My broth... [Read more]

30-Day Blogging Challenge Fun Fact Friday! On this day in 1854, Anthony Faas of Philadelphia, PA, was granted the first US patent for the accordion. He made improvements to the keyboard and enhanced the sound. Do you play or have you ever played any instruments? If not, what's one you'd like to learn? Bonus Points today for sharing a favorite song of yours with us that names any instrument in its title. When I was somewhere around the age of 16, I started taking ... [Read more]

Mexico
January 4, 2017 at 1:46am
The crime rate in Mexico is higher than in the United States and given that it has a significantly lower prosecution rate, this is understandable. The government in Mexico is also very corrupt and they fail to take care of its citizens the way a government should, hence why so many of their citizens are literally dying to get into the United States. For these reasons, I had to chop Mexico from my places that I would like to visit. (Sorry, I've been watching a great deal of "Chopped&#... [Read more]
DAY 1495: December 19, 2016
December 19, 2016 at 7:44pm
"Success is often achieved by those who don't know that failure is inevitable." ~ Coco Chanel What do you think? I'm a 42-year-old woman that lives with my two 18-year-old children and my parents. I know, it sounds pathetic, but it's financially necessary for all parties involved. Anyway, so, up until September, my mother usually did all the cooking for the most part because I was always at work and the kids were doing their schoolwork (they are home schooled). Well... Prompt: What is your favorite weather or meteorological phenomenon? Why is it your favorite? The current temperature in my corner of the world is 67 degrees. The wind is picking up and I can hear leaves and nuts falling from the trees around our house hitting the tin roof of our front deck. It is my understanding that it is going to be brutally cold by Sunday night and we should be prepared for frigid conditions including icy roads after it rains tomorrow night. I'm not... [Read more]
Pull Over
December 14, 2016 at 10:27pm
I was at an intersection yesterday when my light turned green. There was a fire truck up ahead about a block away. My daughter got upset with me because I refused to take my turn and said that I was pissing off the people behind me. That same fire truck made it to the intersection only to have every other asshole blow through the light. One idiot even turned left to go around the fire truck. If I see lights or hear sirens I ALWAYS get out of the way. Now that I work at a hospital this reason is ... [Read more]

December 13, 2016 at 11:12pm
The snowman twitched in the falling snow. The young woman had finished putting on his final touches when he blinked at her. What was happening? Why was it so cold? Where was he? “Do not fret, my love,” she had said. “It is time for you to awaken and see the world for what it is.” “What? How? Who?” he questioned confusedly. “Let us start with the basics,” she replied, grabbing her broom that she had leaned against a work shed. “I am Lilith. I have brought you her... [Read more]

I've been trying to get back into writing again. I've been away too long. So, to that end, I decided to start with the Daily Flash Fiction Contest in order to get the juices flowing. I also have an idea for a possible novel (or maybe just a novella) about a pansexual congresswomen attempting to run for Senate on her way to the White House. It's not a concrete idea yet, as I am still working out many of the details. My daughter and I have created a Facebook group for {x-link:ht... [Read more]
Favorite Comfort Food
December 10, 2016 at 10:49pm
Favorite Comfort Food My favorite comfort food would have to be grilled cheese and tomato soup. My mother would always make it when I was young and I would love to dip the grilled cheese into the tomato soup and eat it that way. Recently, my son started making grilled cheese and now he likes to add things to it, like garlic salt and basil to the bread and pickles, onions or jalapeños inside the sandwich. I love that just as much. I also like grilled cheese with fresh tomatoes ... [Read more]
Thankful
November 21, 2016 at 11:17am
I have led a privileged life. I grew up with both my parents and my older brother. We were never rich by any means, but we were never without. My parents provided us with a safe and stable home environment where we were encouraged to flourish no matter what our potential. We had decent public school education and I even managed to get in some college classes before life (and lack of funds) took over. I was always a mild-mannered child and was easily disciplined. I never talked back to my... [Read more]
Sounds of Life

Week 2 Day 2 Prompt: Sound. Describe three sounds that are important to you, and one sound that drives you absolutely nuts. Or, answer this the other way around, if that suits you. Three sounds that are important to me: 1. The sound of children's laughter. 2. Music. 3. The Sound of Silence. One sound that drives me absolutely nuts: Car alarms, especially when they go off in the middle of the night for hours on end. Don't forget to ch... [Read more]
DAY 1062 October 13, 2015 - Terrorizing ISIS
October 13, 2015 at 11:47am
DAY 1062 October 13, 2015 Prompt: If you could be a fly on the wall anywhere, whose wall ( or what wall) would you choose, and why? In my fly form, I would perch on the walls of any ISIS terrorist cells anywhere in the world. I would listen to them plot their terrorist activities (hopefully I would somehow have a Universal Translator, so I could understand them). I would note all of their plans and report back to the local governments to warn them of these activities. But, that... [Read more]
DAY 1024: October 5, 2015 - Miles to Go Before I Sleep
October 4, 2015 at 11:56pm

Dear Mr. Vaughn,

You probably don't remember me, but you were my substitute English teacher in high school. I say "substitute" because technically we had a different teacher, but he never taught the class because he had been promoted to a different position, so you filled his place for the entire school year.

You taught English and you did it quite well. But you taught so much more than that. In our class we would end up having debates about various to... [Read more]

Week In Review - Sept. 27 - Oct. 3

It's been a rather busy week for me! I have posted so much and done so much it's a wonder that I even survived.
