I've never had a mantis as a pet. I didn't know person could keep them in a cage. A mantis is one of the few insects I would consider having in my house or as a pet.

Mantises - mantes? mantae? Whatever - are cool. Like most people, I don't like having bugs in the house, and I have an arrangement with the local spiders: they stay outside and eat bugs, and I don't stomp them unless they go inside. But when I find a praying mantis in my house, I just let it be. I figure it'll eat the smaller, annoying bugs, and not me, which suits me just fine.

My cats have other ideas about the utility of mantises, but then, my cats have other ideas about almost everything.

Wow, that sounds like an amazing trip! Someday I'll leave the U.S. and get further than Canada

I only know Jim through his blog. Been following for years, but I didn't know (or remember?) the other hats he wears until today. Except as a 30DBC judge, I knew about that. Because I read the intro! Wonder what I missed though... I just try to write every day and connect. That, in and of itself, is a challenge.

I'll go to Europa if you'll book the flight. I'm good at booking cheap accommodations, but I don't think the Dutch have built a hostel there yet.
