As Sheila woke, she stretched every muscle in her body. Reaching far above her head, she reveled in the luxurious feel of her soft, clean, and downy bedding. She smiled to herself when she looked at her phone and noted that it was Sunday. Sighing, and leaning back into the embrace of her pillow-top mattress, she considered all of the things she could get done on her day off. She also considered all the things she could put off until next weekend; when she would have two days off instead of only one. Not that there was much to do.

The house was clean, the dishes done, laundry finished, and everything in order before she even made it into bed the night before. Being single, and having no one else to clean up after did have its advantages. Then again, it had its disadvantages as well, as she had no one to help her occupy her time. She had no one to keep her company.

God, how she missed her daughter.

It was so much worse since Adam had died.

Getting out of bed, she headed toward the bathroom, pausing only long enough to turn on some music. As she was humming along, she gazed into the mirror and noted that there was a bit more silver running through her long tresses these days. “Ah well,” she thought aloud, “it happens to the best of us.” And, shrugging, she picked up her brush.

After performing her morning ablutions, Sheila turned to face her day, not knowing what to do next. She was at an impasse with no idea how to get beyond that point. Just then, the phone rang. “Hey, Mom!” a bright voice came across the line. “I had to come to town for some things. Wanna hang out?”
