Nearly half of Canadians are living paycheck to paycheck
May 5, 2017 at 2:07pm
A whopping 93 per cent carry some form of debt, split almost evenly between mortgages 26%, credit cards 18%, car loans 17%, and lines of credit 16%. These figures were based on a survey completed in September 2016 by the Canadian Payroll Association. The survey itself went on to report that out of the 5,600 survey that 48% of those people state it would be hard to make ends meet if even just one paycheck was delayed. It truly makes you wonder what those same people would do if they... [Read more]
May has arrived - Will it be a lucky month for you!
May 2, 2017 at 1:05am
So many cultures over the centuries have cherished ladybugs, believing them to bring good luck. Start May by reviewing your expenses to see if there is anything you can cut back on and give your cash flow an extra boost. Without even realizing it entertainment can be one of your largest expenses especially during the winter months. You get a couple extra channels from your cable provider, or a Netflix subscription to get you through the chilly nights, or perhaps you go to the t... [Read more]
Make a Budget that Works - Getting Organized
April 25, 2017 at 11:04pm
While my favorite subject and business is budgeting money - this past month I have been budgeting my time in many different directions with my main concentration on preparing and producing an on-line course for those that have never had a budget and those that do but are having issues with getting a budget to work for them. It has been an extensive process and a lot of writing since I started this project Feb 27th, to say the least. But I couldn't be more pleased with the results of the fi... [Read more]

It certainly was a busy March as I spent the majority of my days and nights preparing an online course all about budgets. And now as April rolls in I have opened up a pre-registration launch with a mini-course. You are more than welcome to check it out: http://sylvia.thinkific.com With the completion of the first quarter of the year and spring in the air it's clean up time and while most will look after their closets, and outdoor landscaping it is also a great time to review all ... Your Childs First Job - 50 - 50 Rule
April 27, 2017 at 2:06am
Your Child’s first job Your child has just informed you that they got a job. And you are so excited for them, or are you more excited for you. Don’t worry it’s not wrong to feel that way after all children want things and most times a parent decides if they need it or not. And generally if they don’t need it they don’t get it and then the tears start flowing, or they lock themselves in their room, and tell all their friends how mean of a parent you are for not getting them what t... Expense to Debt Ratio Guidelines
March 7, 2017 at 6:52pm
When you look at expenses to debt ratio and determine if you can work within the guidelines presented your instant analysis would be probably not. And there is a reason for that. The most common approach is to stay within the guidelines of a percentage amount for various expenses. As this chart shows When you look at the above categories you have no way of knowing what the experts consider to be included in that category. Case and Point Housing Expenses . The average person would... [Read more]
Finance Woes - Who Can You Talk To
April 2, 2017 at 6:42am
I love to get out and mingle with various business professionals. It is an opportunity to get insight and feedback provided of course you are willing to branch out and not only listen but talk. This can be reflective of our personal lives as well, especially when we are worried about our financial status. And sometimes due to our financial status we find the need to hibernate close to home and not speak with anyone. The default of that is that we end up talking to our selves within our m... Paper Method - Do You Use It
February 23, 2017 at 8:52pm
Recently corresponding with an individual who resides in a remote and somewhat destitute area, who was trying to assist the community with a helpful get started budget plan. It was a good plan, and solid advice to any that took the time to read it, and perhaps a few did go forward and create their plan. But it does bring up an interesting comparison, when we look at not what kind of budget do you have, but what tools you use to create a budget. Over the years I have seen budgets written o... Review - MyMoneyCoach
February 22, 2017 at 3:39am
So I decided to review a Canadian budget platform [certainly not my first, but I like to see what is out there]. I find it difficult to use most of these platforms as they all have the same claim to fame 'A Budget That Works For You'. Again they did not disappointment me. The advantages of this one included: - a downloadable excel work sheet - already populated with income and expense - drop down menu for bi-weekly, monthly, annually - auto calculations - auto guideline spend... Insurance - How much are you spending?
February 18, 2017 at 8:13pm
Insurance - How much are you spending? As I can only relate to Canadian standards I often feel that I am on insurance overload. You always have to look ahead for the time that the impossible, unfortunate, devastating things happen in your life to benefit from the hundreds of dollars you pay in month after month, year after year. Let's See - How many of these insurance coverages do you pay for: Tenants Package, Homeowners Insurance, Vehicle Insurance, Business Insurance, Medical Insur... [Read more]
Food - How much are you spending?
February 14, 2017 at 3:31pm
Often I am asked "How is a budget going to fix my problem? What I need is more money!" This is not false - however it is misleading. Everyone needs money as we live in a society where everything has a price. But knowing when you need to spend money and when you don't is revealed by using a budget. It can in fact fix over spending in areas that you perhaps did not even realize that you were spending that much. When we pay for something that is under $10 or even $20 per spe... [Read more]
Remember when
February 12, 2017 at 4:51pm
My thoughts on budgeting reflect my life - for where would I be today had I not had one! There is no way of knowing exactly when I started as I can't remember how long I have kept one. But it has always been there for me, guided me, frustrated me, made me curse, cry, and scream and shout - success. I'm sure some of you will remember as I do being a child and working your chores for the week for that magical quarter that you could take to the corner store and get that fantastic sugar... February 10, 2017 at 9:45pm
Ask Yourself Do You: • Earn an income? • Pay your bills regularly? • Constantly have more bills than income? • Struggle with what is left after your bills are paid? • Work extremely hard at your job to earn that income? • Listen, read, or watch all the latest greatest budget ideas and trends? • Say to yourself “Well I’m glad it works for you!” What are your thoughts on budgeting.
