This is impossibly hard to talk about and I'm going to do it anyway. I was in a car accident. I was NOT diagnosed as a TBI sufferer and as a result suffered years of pain and complications. This is where I'll talk about it when I can bring myself to do so.
I am so sorry for your pain and struggles. I too suffer from PTSD and have experienced the sensitivity to sound that you describe. I was a victim of a kidnapping over a decade ago and was held hostage for two weeks. I was also abused most of my childhood by an incestuous father. there are nights where I wake up from the tiniest little sound with my heart and my throat ready to scream and fight and run only to find that there's no reason for it at all. For me trazodone has really helped with a lot of that. my husband also suffers from PTSD and takes trazodone to help him. it works to control your immune system and your fight or flight reflex as well as your anxiety. It really is a great medication but since you don't like medical providers that may not be an option for you.
I'm so sorry for all the negative things that you've experienced.
