So I come to this again, a WDC blog of my own, for the first time since 'Stargopher' debuted online. If I didn't think I had things to say then, well I definitely do now. And it's a time of changes. So much has happened recently, that maybe I just need to share so that somebody can help me sort it all out. Maybe if I just get it all down, I can keep things straight in my own head.

As I go along, I'm reminded how important writing is to me. I've been serious about it since 18, and I've only done two big things since then. The first was to learn how to take criticism. The next was to seek out people who were like me. I'd say these two things have carried me pretty far. I've seen some of my stories and articles published, and saw my crazy dream of a Lit tournament come to life, but there's one big thing I am just beginning to learn. It came during the same bout of changes.

You know, I used to view writing as hard work, or something to be accomplished--a quota of words and story submissions. But I don't think of writing as an exercise anymore, not the kind of writing that matters. I don't even think writing is an action. I've started to think of it as a place. It is somewhere you can go, where your mind slows down. Somewhere, at times, you must go. As Hayao Miyazaki would say, fiction should allow one to escape for a time, and then return to the world feeling refreshed.

I know I need to visit more often. Now that I know you're out there, perhaps I will. The only way to get there is by typing one word at a time.
