Jalal (Glory), 17 Ilm (Knowledge) 177 B.E. - Saturday, October 31, 2020
DAY 2281: Happy Samhain or Happy Halloween It's the last day of October which brings about daylight savings time change and also a reality check. There's only 62 days left of 2020 counting today. Where did the time go? Are you looking forward to the new year or are you feeling melancholy it's ending? I've been thinking of all the things I wanted to accomplish. .What about you how has the year gone? Where did the time go? "Yesterday is but today's memory, and tomorrow is today's dream." Khalil Gibran Are you looking forward to the new year or are you feeling melancholy it's ending? The new year I celebrate will occur after sunset on the evening of Friday, March 19, 2021. Naw-Ruz, which means New Day, is a joyous celebration of prayer, music, and other festivities and will begin the year of 178 B.E. "Praised be Thou, O my God, that Thou hast ordained Naw-Rúz as a festival unto those who have observed the Fast for love of Thee and abstained from all that is abhorrent unto Thee. Grant, O my Lord, that the fire of Thy love and the heat produced by the Fast enjoined by Thee may inflame them in Thy Cause, and make them to be occupied with Thy praise and with remembrance of Thee." What about you how has the year gone? I will look back at the tests and difficulties of 2020 with gratitude because they increased my faith. I will use the inspiration provided by 2020 in poems, blog entries, and perhaps a few stories. "America is a country in deep pain. The coronavirus pandemic, racial injustice, economic insecurity, political polarization, misinformation and general daily uncertainty dominate our lives to the point that many people are barely able to cope. And life wasn't exactly a cakewalk before 2020. Out of all the fears, stresses and indignities our citizens are living with, there emerges a kind of primal insecurity that undermines every aspect of life right now." Istiqlal (Independence), 16 Ilm (Knowledge) 177 B.E. - Friday, October 30, 2020 When I was thinking about this entry, the following scripture--which I think I memorized in Vacation Bible School--popped into my head. "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."56 As I meditated on that Bible verse, I realized that "Trust in God" is a theme in all religions, and emphasized by all of God's divine prophets. After meditating on the scripture, I opened Poor in all Save God: Comfort and Guidance for Hard Times--from the Writings of the Baha'i Faith to the chapter Trust in God, the Provider. Trust In God Trust in God, He is the provider, the All-Glorious. Trust in God under all conditions and in all situations, because only through trusting in the Almighty can we find perfect peace. Prayer in Times of Hardship "He who puts his trust in God, God will suffice him. He who fears God, God will send him relief." Baha'u'llah7 Footnotes |
Istijlal (Majesty), 15 Ilm (Knowledge) 177 B.E. - Thursday, October 29, 2020 "Immerse yourselves in the ocean of My words, that ye may unravel its secrets, and discover all the pearls of wisdom that lie hid in its depths. Take heed that ye do not vacillate in your determination to embrace the truth of this Cause—a Cause through which the potentialities of the might of God have been revealed, and His sovereignty established. With faces beaming with joy, hasten ye unto Him. This is the changeless Faith of God, eternal in the past, eternal in the future. Let him that seeketh, attain it; and as to him that hath refused to seek it—verily, God is Self-Sufficient, above any need of His creatures." His words are an ocean of healing His words are an ocean of unity proclaiming there is only one God, the oneness of humanity, and the single foundation of religion. Footnotes |
Idal (Justice), 14 Ilm (Knowledge) 177 B.E. - Wednesday, October 28, 2020 “The death of a dream can in fact serve as the vehicle that endows it with new form, with reinvigorated substance, a fresh flow of ideas, and splendidly revitalized color. In short, the power of a certain kind of dream is such that death need not indicate finality at all but rather signify a metaphysical and metaphorical leap forward.” Author-Poet Aberjhani, The River of Winged Dreams I am a NaNoWriMo rebel In my 2020 NaNoWriMo book-- Epistles From My Soul-- I contemplate the deep metaphysical questions "about understanding existence and knowledge"10. In Epistles From My Soul I write about my spirit's journey of faith, about its movement from Southern Baptist to Baha'i. “Thou seest me, O my God, detached from all save Thee and cleaving unto Thee. Guide me, then, in all mine affairs unto that which profiteth me for the glory of Thy Cause and the loftiness of the station of Thy loved ones.” Let him then reflect upon the matter and undertake whatever cometh to mind. This vehement opposition of the enemies will indeed give way to supreme prosperity." Writing Epistles From My Soul is a spiritual exercise that must begin and end with prayer and meditation. Fidal (Grace), 13 Ilm (Knowledge) 177 B.E. - Tuesday, October 27, 2020 "Meditate profoundly, that the secret of things unseen may be revealed unto you, that you may inhale the sweetness of a spiritual and imperishable fragrance, and that you may acknowledge the truth that from time immemorial even unto eternity the Almighty hath tried, and will continue to try, His servants, so that light may be distinguished from darkness, truth from falsehood, right from wrong, guidance from error, happiness from misery, and roses from thorns." Moments of silence Prayer and meditation inseparable partners on my spiritual journey: in prayer I commune with God, and In meditation of commune with my own spirit. Footnotes |

Day 2901: Prompt: “There is no greater threat to the critics and cynics and fearmongers than those of us who are willing to fall because we have learned how to rise.” Brené Brown, Rising Strong What do you thing is Ms Brown right? How do you rise strong? Knowledge is necessary "The first Ṭaráz and the first effulgence which hath dawned from the horizon of the Mother Book is that man should know his own self and recognize that which leadeth unto loftiness or lowliness, glory or abasement, wealth or poverty. Having attained the stage of fulfillment and reached his maturity, man standeth in need of wealth, and such wealth as he acquireth through crafts or professions is commendable and praiseworthy in the estimation of men of wisdom, and especially in the eyes of servants who dedicate themselves to the education of the world and to the edification of its peoples. They are, in truth, cup-bearers of the life-giving water of knowledge and guides unto the ideal way. They direct the peoples of the world to the straight path and acquaint them with that which is conducive to human upliftment and exaltation. The straight path is the one which guideth man to the dayspring of perception and to the dawning-place of true understanding and leadeth him to that which will redound to glory, honor and greatness." Knowledge of God, and knowledge of self guides us through the valley of shadows, along the path of wisdom, and helps us rise above the abyss of doubt. Footnotes |

DAY 2899: Use these words in your post... immortal, quandary spiral, ghosts, cotton, silk, and red. Words form images in my mind, Immortal echoes reverberate through time and space intoning the adventure of life upon the material plane, and the spirit's hope of rebirth into the spiritual realm. Ghosts-- the foggy images of yesterday's regret waiting to haunt the present and the future. Cotton white clouds concealing the sapphire firmament of faith descend, with the Lord Returned in the Father's Glory. Silk winds blowing from the Abha paradise carry to the believer the song of God's Nightingale and the scent of the Tree of Life. Red is the color of martyrs blood-- Christ upon the cross, and The Bab in front of 750 rifles. Quandary spiral: a believers perplexity moves around the fixed point-- of prayer, meditation, scripture reading, and over coming test and difficulties-- constantly decreasing to the point of steadfastness. |

Day 2895: Autumn Flowers I got the idea for part of the title of this entry after reading the latest editorial in {x/ink:http://www.elixir-journal.org/issue11/}e*lix*ir issue #11, autumn 2020{/xlink}. The editorial, Looking with the Eyes of Faith by SLH (Sandra Lynn Hutchisen) mentioned "God's creation." After finishing the article, I realized that would go better with the prompt "Autumn Flowers" than the flower I had first considered. "...whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth is a direct evidence of the revelation within it of the attributes and names of God,..." Autumn flowers are part of God's creation, they reveal evidence of the Creator's existence. Footnotes |

DAY 2269: In the book, The Berlin Candy Bomber by Gail S. Halverson, a pilot threw down lots of candy parachuted by handkerchiefs to the children of Berlin, during the siege of the city by the Russians at the end of World War II. What are your thoughts on small but kind acts like this? Do they have the potential of bringing about World Peace? Small and/or random acts of kindness help bring people together, but they won't bring about World Peace. The one thing that will establish World Peace is the complete acceptance--from the grass roots level on up--of the oneness, the unity, of the human race. It doesn't matter what the nationality, religion, gender, color, etc. all human beings are of the same species. All were created by the same God. All are entitled to the same rights. The Creator loves all human beings, even those who doubt the existence of God. "We are bound to you by the strongest ties of love and unity. We long with heart and soul for the day to arrive when the tabernacle of the oneness of humanity will have been raised in the midmost heart of the world and the banner of universal peace unfurled in all regions. The oneness of humanity must therefore be established, that the edifice of universal peace may be raised in turn." Footnotes |
Jamal (Beauty), 4 Ilm (Knowledge) 177 B.E. - Sunday, October 18, 2020 Birth of the Bab I'm considered changing the name of my NaNoWriMo project from Letters From My Soul to Epistles From My Soul. According to dictionary.com, epistle means "a letter, especially a formal or didactic one; written communication."23 I don't want the letters to sound didactic, I do want them to be formal rather than informal. I also want them to focus on the spiritual path and beliefs, which--to me--suggests an epistle and not a normal long or formal letter. Footnotes |

Day 2891: What is your favorite part of October that has nothing to do with Halloween? October is a delightful month, that brings back joyful memories of autumn in Oklahoma. It was a time when cooler day meant changing leaves, and Grandma Mary canning veggies from her garden. October is a refreshing month, that brings cooler days to Las Vegas, which allows me to leave my front door open all day. October 2020 means celebrating the Feast of Knowledge on the fifteen, and the Twin Holy days on the eighteenth and nineteenth. On the Eighteenth of October we celebrate the Birth of the Bab, and on the Nineteenth we celebrate the Birth of Baha'u'llah. |

DAY 2890:https://www.delish.com/food/g25572846/dessert-quotes/?slide=19 Pick a dessert quote and share a story that connects with the one you chose. Katharine Hepburn O Lord, O Lord, Thank you for this white or black confection that sends joy through my entire being. |
Istijlal (Maqjesty), 1 Ilm (Knowledge) 177 B.E. - Thursday, October 15, 2020 Feast Day of Knowledge "Therefore strive that your actions day by day may be beautiful prayers. Turn towards God, and seek always to do that which is right and noble. Enrich the poor, raise the fallen, comfort the sorrowful, bring healing to the sick, reassure the fearful, rescue the oppressed, bring hope to the hopeless, shelter the destitute!" I attended the Zoom meeting of the Feast of Ilm (Knowledge) last night. The Feast opened with a video of a man singing Amazing Grace. After the song there was a prayer, followed by another song, Have You Heard. The next reading was the one (see above) by 'Abd'u-Baha from Paris Talks. There were two more songs and a scripture reading before we proceeded to the consultation-business portion of the Feast. The Feast ended with a healing prayer. O Lord, help me to make my actions beautiful prayers proclaiming the Glory of God. One of the subjects discussed at feast was Devotionals. I found out that I can hold a Devotional in my home, even if I'm the only one to attend. Therefore, I will be taking an hour each Saturday to say prayers and read the sacred scriptures. I can also call some one on the phone and we can say prayers, as part of the Devotional. Footnotes |

DAY 2888: Write a limerick or a short story about the word pumpkin. (A Limerick is a rhymed humorous or nonsense poem of five lines which originated in Limerick, Ireland. The Limerick has a set rhyme scheme of : a-a-b-b-a with a syllable structure of: 9-9-6-6-9.) There once was a pumpkin named Abel, Whose job was to decorate a table, His flashlight was so bright, That on Halloween night, The Vampires became quite unstable. |
Fidal (Grace), 18 Mashiyyat (Will) 177 B.E. - Tuesday, October 13, 2020 I look at the prompt quote or suggestion, I consider how I'm going to answer, and my mind is blank. I don't think I have writer's block, although that is a possibility. I suspect the problem is just that I'm overthinking the theme or subject of the prompt. I'm also having difficulty coming up with prompts, which isn't a big deal because there are dozens of websites that I can turn to for prompts. I've decided to try something different for my blog entries for the next 26 days. Starting on Wednesday, October 14, and ending on Sunday, November 8, all of my blog entries will begin with consecutive letters of the alphabet. |

DAY 2262: The Chinese-American author Ha Jin, when asked about what most impressed him when he arrived at the USA, answered: “A chemical smell here. It was very alien, very overwhelming. Jamal (Glory), 16 Mashiyyat (Will) 177 B.E. - Sunday, October 11, 2020 I'm caught up with the NaNo Prep challenge exercise I was behind on. Last night, I read two articles in the Would You Vote for Science or God? series by Maya Bohnhoff. The articles I read are A Debate: Does Science Refute God? and Life, Matter and the God Particle . I finished "A Cabin in the Woods" and submitted it to "Stormy's poetry newsletter & contest" . I'm a little slow today. Not sure what the problem is, because I don't watch the news on television or take a newspaper. I get all my news online, because it helps keep my blood pressure low. Maybe I'm catching too much of the news online. For the rest of the week I'll read only science news, Baha'i articles, and read specific blog entries. |
