DAY 2601: I am looking forward to the next decade because ...

I am looking forward to the next decade because, which actually begins in 2021, because it is the centenary of the Ascension of 'Abdu'l-Baha. 'Abdu'l-Baha, the eldest son of Baha'u'llah and His wife Ásíyyih Khánum. 'Abdu'l-Baha3 was born on May 23, 1844 in Tehran. In his early years, 'Abdu'l-Baha spent his life in luxury and living between the family's home in Tehran and country estate. After Baha'u'llah declared his faith in the Bab, 'Abdu'l-Baha and the rest of the family were persecuted and exiled from Iran. Eventually the were sent to the prison city of Akka. After 40 years in prison, 'Abdu'l-Baha was freed as a results of the Young Turks Rebellion.

"abdu'l-Baha travel to Europe in August 2011 and after visiting several cities there including Paris and London. After leaving Europe, he sailed for America arriving in New York on April 11, 1912. While in America he made a tour of the country from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and even visited a part of Canada.

Prayer for America4

"O Thou kind Lord! This gathering is turning to Thee. These hearts are radiant with Thy love. These minds and spirits are exhilarated by the message of Thy glad-tidings. O God! Let this American democracy become glorious in spiritual degrees even as it has aspired to material degrees, and render this just government victorious. Confirm this revered nation to upraise the standard of the oneness of humanity, to promulgate the Most Great Peace, to become thereby most glorious and praiseworthy among all the nations of the world. O God! This American nation is worthy of Thy favors and is deserving of Thy mercy. Make it precious and near to Thee through Thy bounty and bestowal."
‘Abdu’l-Bahá

DAY 2600: At the end of a year, newscast bombard us with the year's bad news. However, there is also good new for any year. Take a look at 50 Pieces of Good News We Got in 2019  , and let us know which one i s your favorite. Alternately, give us some good news in your life or area of the world.

The good news for 2019 was the success of the Bicentenary Celebrations of the Birth of the Bab across the planet. In every country, where there is a National Spiritual Assemble or a Baha'i temple the birth was celebrated through community projects, art projects, and plays. In Las Vegas, the Local Spiritual Assembly produced a play that told the story of the life of the Bab. The below video, which lasts a little over an hour, tells the story of the life of the Bab. It tells the story through the words of those who knew Him and who witnessed His execution in July of 1850.

The number of videos that were produced, by Baha'is across the Earth, is so great that it will take me all of 2020, if not longer, to watch. The worldwide celebration lasted 72 hours, 72 hours, one world  .

DAY 2598: My grandmother used to say that what you were doing on New Year's Day you would be doing the rest of the year. Is this an enlightened saying or a superstition?

I suspect my Grandmother's saying was either a superstition or a self-fulfilling prophecy. There were certain chores she absolutely refused to do on New Year's Day, such as cleaning the toilet, washing and ironing, or cleaing the house. There were other chores that she did religiously every day of the year, including New Year's Day. Those chores were cooking, washing the dishes, and making the beds.

Since January 1--the beginning of the Gregorian year--isn't (for me) a Holy Day, I plan to do some surveys, which I wouldn't do on a Holy Day. I also plan to write, and maybe pay a bill online. Most of the day will be spent relaxing, eating, reading, and saying some prayers.

DAY 2091: I wish someone had said this to me--- “Have regular hours for work and play; make each day both useful and pleasant, and prove that you understand the worth of time by employing it well. Then youth will bring few regrets, and life will become a beautiful success.” ― Louisa May Alcott, Little Women Did anyone ever say this to you? What's the best advice someone gave you along this line?

Take time to play and pray,
even on New Year's Day.

I've always scheduled time for work and prayer, scheduling time to play wasn't something I was taught to do or even considered doing. After reading the quote, I think it's a good idea, especially for writer, because it gives the mind and the muse a chance to relax and notice the beauty and joy in the world around them. Perhaps I should add that to my New Year's commitment list.

DAY 2597: It's the time for self reflection, resolutions and setting goals for the New Year, new decade. What goals or changes do you plan for the new decade and the new year?

Self-Reflection

I didn't do a good job of self-reflection this year, which is one of the reasons I didn't accomplish all my resolution/goals. The other reason is that I considered the goals resolutions instead of commitments. I came to this conclusion after reading and reviewed an article by Kenzie titled "Resolutions, No! Commitments, Yes!, that discussed the difference between resolutions and commitments. In 2020 I'm making commitments instead of resolutions.

2020 Commitments

I'm staring at the computer screen and drawing a blank. I can't think of anything, but I have to figure it out before January 1, 2020. There are two things I absolutely have to do in 2020. First, is to see a dentist, because I either need new dentures or to have the ones I'm wearing relined. Second, I need to increase my income, because my fixed income needs fixing. In approximately five days a New Year and a new decade will begin7. A new decade full of challenges for humanity nd each individual. The main challenge that humanity faces is uniting as a single species, while cherishing the diversity that differences of color, gender, culture, religion, and nation bestows upon the individuals that compose the human race.

Ever since 1844, when the Bab declared the dawn of a new day, humanity has been inexorably moving towards unity. In the nineteenth century the momentum was slow, almost unnoticeable. The speed picked up during the twentieth century, and now--in the twenty-first century--it is moving even faster. The speed with continue to increase, as the forces opposed to unity do their best to stop it. Opposition to unity will not stop it, because the survival of the human race depends on its unity as a species.

7  Please note that there are some who think the new decade begins on January 1, 2021. According to the research I have done, both January 1, 2020 and January 1, 2021 are valid depending on the individual's point of view.

"For a single purpose were the Prophets, each and all, sent down to earth; for this was Christ made manifest, for this did Baha’u’llah raise up the call of the Lord: that the world of man should become the world of God, this nether realm the Kingdom, this darkness light, this satanic wickedness all the virtues of heaven — and unity, fellowship and love be won for the whole human race, that the organic unity should reappear and the bases of discord be destroyed and life everlasting and grace everlasting become the harvest of mankind."

DAY 2594: Do you have any Christmas eve traditions? If so, what are they? If not, tell us about other traditions you have.

Christmas Eve Tradition

"Happy Birthday!"
Is a Christmas Eve tradition
wished to me by friends and family.

The only Christmas Eve tradition, I care about anymore, is the Happy Birthday wish. When I was younger unwrapping a birthday present was nice. I could always tell which gift under the tree was my birthday gift because it was wrapped in birthday paper. When Mom was alive, we always went out to eat for my birthday, but I haven't had a birthday dinner in a restaurant since 2011, which was the last time Mom and I went to a buffet at one of the hotel-casinos.

DAY 2593: “Snowflakes are one of nature's most fragile things, but just look what they can do when they stick together.” ― Vesta M. Kelly Let this quote inspire your entry.

Each snowflake, like each human being is a unique creation, that alone can't make much of a difference. Together in a snow field or snow dune, they cover the barren landscape of winter making it beautiful. Humans, when working in unity, can change the world through cooperation. Snowflakes don't care what their neighbors are different. Snowflakes cling together because singly they are powerless, but together they are a force to be reckoned with.

Blessed are your eyes, for they have beheld the signs of their Mighty Lord!
Blessed are your tongues, for they have uttered the praise of my Lord, the Supreme!
Blessed are your nostrils, for they have inhaled the odor of faithfulness from the people of guidance!
Blessed are your hearts, for they are attracted to the Beauty of Abha!
Blessed are your breasts, for they are dilated by the knowledge of God!
Blessed are your souls, for they have partaken of the spirit of life from the fragrances of sanctity in the Paradise of Abha!"

Beatitudes

Blessed is the lover who intones praises of the All-Glorious Lord!
Blessed is the seeker who searches for truth independently!
Blessed is the believer who remains steadfast in the Covenant of God!

Blessed is the lover who wakes intoning God's praise at dawn;
blessed is the seeker who hears the nightingales morning song;
blessed is the believer who sees the Lord returned in glory;
blessed is the wanderer who finds the point of adoration.

DAY 2591: What is your favorite part of winter? If you don't have a favorite part of winter, write about your favorite of either autumn, spring, or summer.

Winter's Inspiration

Winter brings back memories
of my childhood spent in Oklahoma,
when snow covered my Grandparent's front yard
and the snowplow
cleared the streets om Blackwell.
Winter
In Oklahoma

Swiftly the snow falls
Making a carpet of white
for me to walk on.

Winter inspires poems
of snow clouds
and icy winds.

Snow Clouds and Winter Wind

Subarctic winds blow
pushing in snow clouds
without snow.

Frigid brazen wind
Echoing the moans of
The restless undead.

DAY 2084: John Geddes said, "Freshly cut Christmas trees smelling of stars and snow and pine resin—inhale deeply and fill your soul with wintry night." What fills your soul at this time?

Christmas Trees

The scent of living fir trees brings back memories of my childhood:
of going Christmas tree shopping
with Grandpa Frank on Friday or Saturday
of picking out the perfect tree
to stand at the window
of my Grandparent's living room,
and of decorating the tree
with the help of Grandma Mary.

The older I get,
the less I desire
to have a real Christmas tree
cut from its roots,
and decorated
with gold, silver, and red ornaments
in my living room.

In this age of global warming and climate change
fir and pine trees
should be left in their natural habitat
of old growth forest
or their unnatural habitat
of Christmas tree farms,
where they can take in carbon dioxide
and transform it into oxygen.

I would like to see a new Christmas tradition started
of planting a living fir tree
in the front yard
instead of putting dying fir tree
at the living room window.

Winter Poem

I feel a chill in the air,
winter is almost here.

Winter solstice in Las Vegas occurs Saturday, December 21, at 8:19 pm Pacific time.

The day will begin to grow longer,
and the sun's rays will grow stronger
warming the atmosphere
and bringing to my cold limbs spring's cheer.

"The Winter Solstice is the time of ending and beginning, a powerful time -- a time to contemplate your immortality. A time to forgive, to be forgiven, and to make a fresh start. A time to awaken."
Frederick Lenz

The end of autumn
is the beginning of winter,
one season flows into the next
like the Nile flows into the Atlantic.

December Darkness

Short cloudy days
and long dark nights,
with only distant starlight
twinkling through the atmosphere.

On moon lit nights,
the full cold moon cast shadows
across the shivering fields
of winter.

Weariness embraces:
Is it Seasonal Affective Disorder,
lack of sleep,
or full blown depression?

No answer comes,
so I take the bedclothes
off the bed,
and remake the bed
in hopes that it just
lack of sleep
that remaking the bed
will cure.

DAY 2080: In your opinion, what is the coolest technological device available in our day? Why?

I believe the coolest technology device is any device that lets its owner access the internet. While there are numerous negative aspects to the internet, it's main advantage and positive attribute is its ability to communicate across national and international boundaries. Another positive attribute is its access to knowledge about various cultures and scientific discoveries. The internet can raise awareness of climate change and other international issues. It has the potential of bringing humans together and helping them communicate with one another.

DAy 2587: Prompt: What is the earliest fiction book you remember reading for yourself? Tell us about it. If you can find a link put that in your blog entry./c}

The first fiction book I remember reading was The Black Stallion by Walter Farley. I think I checked the book out of the library. When I finished it I read the other two books in the series The Black Stallion Returns and The Young Black Stallion; however, I can't remember if I read them one right after another or in what order. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Black_Stallion

The first science fiction book I remember reading was Children of the Atom by Wilmar H. Shiras. I suspect this was the book that got me hooked on science fiction and fantasy, because after I finished it I started reading H. P. DAY 2079: Pick a holiday you are celebrating this month: what is this holiday all about? If you are not celebrating any holiday, write about why a holiday celebration can be important?

The Festival of Ridvan

One of the holidays I celebrate is the Festival of Ridvan, which occurs between April 21 and March 2 every year. There are three Holy Days during Ridvan--the first, ninth, and twelfth day--on which work is suspended (whenever possible). Ridvan is the celebration of Baha'u'lllah's declaration, and it occurred right before his exile from Baghdad to Constantinople12. Baha'u'llah's declaration occurred on an island of the Tigress River, just outside of Baghdad.

"Rejoice with exceeding gladness, O people of Bahá, as ye call to remembrance the Day of supreme felicity, the Day whereon the Tongue of the Ancient of Days hath spoken, as He departed from His House, proceeding to the Spot from which He shed upon the whole of creation the splendours of His name, the All-Merciful..."
Baha'u'llah13

Baha'u'llah, with a group of believers, entered the Garden of Ridvan14 on April 21, 1863. After He entered, the Tigress rose preventing anyone else from going into the Garden. On the ninth day, the flood subsided enough to allow Baha'u'llah's family and more believers into the Garden. On the twelfth day, Baha'u'llah left Ridvan, and--escorted by government troops--proceeded to Constantinople.

Jamál (Beauty), 4 Masáʼil (Questions) 176 B.E. - Sunday, December 15 2019

There are nine days until my birthday an ten days until Christmas. One of the things I'm thankful for is that I won't be doing any Christmas or birthday shopping. If I don't have to go to a mall or shopping center, I don't have to. I can stay home and chose the holiday and Christmas songs I want to listen to. I don't have to listen to holiday music if I don't want to. Which is a choice people shopping and store employees don't have, because this time of year almost every store is playing holiday music of some type.

What a joyous time of year,
with holiday music invading your ear,
and Christmas carols attacking your mind.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy listening to holiday music and Christmas carols. The problem with the canned music played in the stores, is that it begins before Halloween and doesn't end until after January 1. In that time, a person can overdose on the joyful carols and holiday songs. Some of the songs get stuck in ones head and play over and over and over.

Flowers are blooming, trees are leafing,

Beware of Friday the 13th

Beware of Friday the 13th!
Beware of Paraskevidekatriaphobia16,
Friggatriskaidekaphobia17,
or Triskaidekaphobia18.

Don't worry about being afraid
you can't pronounce
those words,
because that's a perfectly logical fear;
unless you suffer from Sesquipedaliophobia19.

Why is Friday the 13th
considered the unluckiest day of the year?
No one know for sure!20
