DAY 2481: Write about endings and beginnings. Endings and Beginningss The end of August foretells the beginning of September and the approach of autumn. The autumnal (September) Equinox is the official change of seasons, but Labor Day-- September 2, 2019-- is the official end of summer. It's time to end summer romances and begin autumn love affairs, it's time to close the door on summer dreaming and open the window to autumn planning for the coming winter. |
Istiqlál (Independence}, 11 Asmá’ (Names) 176 B.E. - Friday, August 30, 2019 The Last Friday in August 2019 On the last Friday in August 2019, I contemplate the next 60 days and the poems I need to finish before the Bicentenary of the Birth of the Bab. I have written 110 out of the 200 poems I intend to write before October 29. I have only 90 poems to write in 60 days. If I write 2 poems a day, it will take me 45 days to complete the 200. I suspect there will be days when I won't get two written and there will be other days when I write more than two poems. Poetry is like that, especially when one is writing a series of poem covering the same theme. All I can do is keep reciting the Remover of Difficulties, which helps because when I recite it I find titles. Many of the poem in "Bicentenary Poems and Prose" started with a title. I've found that sometimes a title helps when writing a series of poems on the same theme. Other poems in this book were inspire by the sacred scriptures. |
Istijlál (Majesty}, 10 Asmá’ (Names) 176 B.E. - Thursday, August 29, 2019 There are 61 days until October 29, which is the two hundredth anniversary of the Birth of the Bab. The Las Vegas community will be celebrating on October 26, with a program open to both everyone no matter what their religion. Between now and October 29, I have to finish 92 of the 200 poems I'm writing to celebrate the Bicentenary. One of the things I'll be doing to help inspire the poems is watch the videos created by the Irish Baha'i community. I'm posting the poems in "Bicentenary Poems and Prose" . I'm worried, but not about finishing the poem by October 29. I'm worried about how good the poem are. Most of the poems are either free verse or free style because those forms seem to fit the subjects and themes better then other types of form poem. I'm going to dedicate either Saturday or Sunday exclusively to working on the poems. During the week I surveys, which usually takes longer than what I expect.I'm going to close this entry because I have a couple of things to finish today. |

Day 2075: "Life is not measured by the breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away." Maya Angelou Do you agree with Maya? Breathless: To The Bab Breathless, I let the Holy Spirit's echoes flow through my mind and penetrate my soul, as I intone the prayers by the Bab,
Day 2474: Begin your blog entry with: On my way home——- On My Way Home On my way home I look out the window of the paratransit bus and I see individual citizens moving through the city. Some ignore the homeless asking for assistance, while others help in the only way they can by giving coins or dollar bills. |
Fiḍál (Grace}, 8 Asmá’ (Names) 176 B.E. - Tuesday, August 27, 2019 Random acts of kindness are gifts of love free given to another human being. |
Kamál (Perfection}, 7 Asmá’ (Names) 176 B.E. - Monday, August 26, 2019 Motivational Monday Why is it called Motivational Monday? Do human beings need more motivation at the beginning of the workweek instead of at its end? Not everyone begins their workweek on Monday. Some people begin their workweek on Saturday: Do people who work Saturday through Thursday need more motivation on Saturday?
DAY 2074: Write about water rising, overflowing or flooding such as a creek, the River Seine or any other river, the ocean, a swimming pool, a bathtub, water in a glass...any water. Floodwaters Floodwaters rising blocking streets and highways across the nation. Weather patterns change as global warming continues bringing one hundred year floods every ten or twenty years. Will humanity survive? Only if governments act now.
DAY 2472: Write a tribute to someone who you wish was still in your life? To My Mother Some days the loneliness overwhelms me and tears flow more easily. It is these days when the tears cover my memories like dewdrops on roses. |
Jamál (Beauty}, 6 Asmá’ (Names) 176 B.E. - Sunday, August 25, 2019 Contemplation's on the Last Sunday in August 2019 On the last Sunday in August 2019 I contemplate the worldwide preparation being made for the celebration of the Bicentenary of the Birth of the Bab. Joyfully Preparations gain momentum worldwide for bicentenary , as I read the article I intone God's Most Great Name, and look forward to the planned celebration in my own city. In Africa, preparations energize and focus communities ; I raise my voice in gratitude for the Internet, for the World Wide Web that gives me access to the preparations of the World Wide Baha'i Community. |

DAY 2470: “The scientist is not a person who gives the right answers, he’s one who asks the right questions.” ― Claude Levi-Strauss Let this quote inspire your blog entry. The scientist asks formulates the question, tests it, and asks the the question again. The scientist asks the question, answers it, only to find more questions. |

DAY 2070: What does “a fresh start” mean to you? A Fresh Start "I have wakened in Thy shelter, O my God, and it becometh him that seeketh that shelter to abide within the Sanctuary of Thy protection and the Stronghold of Thy defense. Illumine my inner being, O my Lord, with the splendors of the Dayspring of Thy Revelation, even as thou didst illumine my outer being with the morning light of Thy favor." Bahá’u’lláh3 A fresh stat is a new day, A fresh stat is a cup of hot, strong, black coffee and a chocolate chip cookie. A fresh stat is stopping when negative thoughts interrupt and intoning prayer of protection against vain imaginings. Footnotes |
Istijlál (Majesty}, 3 Asmá’ (Names) 176 B.E. - Thursday, August 22, 2019 "Is there any Remover of difficulties save God? Say: Praised be God! He is God! All are His servants, and all abide by His bidding!" The Báb4 Despite the fat that I woke up about every two or three hours, I slept well last night and woke up rested this morning. I think that was because when I woke up during the night, I remember the dream I was having. In my dream, the Bab came to visit. He didn't say much, He encouraged me to repeat the Remover of Difficulties for the problems I'm encountering and to finish the poem I am writing to celebrate the Bicentenary of His birth. I always wake up rested when I remember the dreams that wake me up during the night. Footnotes |

DAY 2467: What does your favorite song say to you? "We, verily, have made music as a ladder for your souls, a means whereby they may be lifted up unto the realm on high..." Baha'u'llah5 My favorite song says that I believe in divine unity. It says that I accept the Abraham, Moses, Christ, Buddha, Muhammad, Baha'u'llah, and others we sent by the Almighty Creator to guide the human race in its spiritual evolution. Footnotes |

DAY 2069: As you go through your day, how much do you think of the existence of the sun? Do you love it or do you hate it? Do you think at one time or another it can be a threat to earth’s existence? And what about the time when humans worshipped it? The Sun I don't give much thought to the4 sun, except in summer when the temperature in Las Vegas reaches the triple digits. I should give more thought to Sol, the name of our central star, because without it there would be no life on Earth. I don't think we have to worry about the sun going nova, turning into a white dwarf star, or even one of the Wolf-Reyetstars6 any time in the near future. Humanity's focus at this point in our spiritual and material evolution concerns the Earth itself. We need to find a way to alleviate global warming and climate change, which is, at least, partly cause by our own greed and superstitions. I believe we will find a way to alleviate the problem, but only if humanity is willing to work together as a species.
DAY 2466: The Ice Cream Truck. The Ice Cream Truck When I was growing up the ice cream truck went through our neighborhood every day during the spring and summer. When I moved to Las Vegas, I discovered that the ice cream trucks didn't take a seasonal break. The go through my neighborhood every day or every other day, depending on the drivers work schedule. When I stay at my grandparents' house, Grandpa or Grandma would give my siblings and I a dime or a quarter (ice cream was less expensive) to purchase either an ice cream bar or a Popsicle. DAY 2068: What does the phrase “Closed Door” mean to you? If there is such a situation, what’s behind the door? Why is it closed? Closed Door Closed doors suggests secrets, hidden agendas, and a line from a song by Charlie Rich "no one knows what goes on behind closed doors"7. Secrets and hidden agendas make me uncomfortable, because they suggest that someone--usually government officials--are attempting to conceal knowledge from individuals. Knowledge is power, and whoever has the knowledge has the power. If the government or anyone is attempting to conceal knowledge from the citizens of a country, they are attempting to usurp the power that the citizens have. Knowledge gives people power over their own lives, without knowledge individuals are helpless pawns in the hands of the rich.
DAY 2465: Use these words in you blog entry: ocean, glacier, tide pools. Global Warming Glaciers melt beneath arctic heatwaves releasing fresh water into the ocean and raising sea levels worldwide. How does global warming impact the tides and tide pools? Footnotes |
Jamál (Beauty}, 18 Kamál (Perfection) 176 B.E. - Sunday, August 18, 2019 "This is the Ocean out of which all seas have proceeded, and with which every one of them will ultimately be united. From Him all the Suns have been generated, and unto Him they will all return. Through His potency the Trees of Divine Revelation have yielded their fruits, every one of which hath been sent down in the form of a Prophet, bearing a Message to God’s creatures in each of the worlds whose number God, alone, in His all-encompassing knowledge, can reckon." The Universal Mind The Universal Mind connects all the Manifestations of Divinity, expresses the love of the Unknowable and All-Knowing Creator through the Mirrors of the Almighty's attributes: through Abraham, Krishna, Buddha, Moses, Christ, Muhammad, the Bab, and Baha’u’llah. DAY 2463: Write about the stars. "Know thou that every fixed star hath its own planets, and every planet its own creatures, whose number no man can compute." Baha'u'llah10 Stars. Planets, and Humanity's Maturity Humanity isn't alone in the universe, Baha'u'llah doesn't specifically say what type of creature live on the planets of other stars, or even the planets of our star system. That is left up to science to discover. Baha'u'llah, like the other divine manifestations or prophets, revealed only what humanity is ready at this point in its spiritual and material evolution to understand. Humanity is growing up, maturing, entering its adulthood. At this time the human species is capable of comprehending many things we couldn't understand when earlier prophets--such as Moses, Abraham, Christ, Muhammad, and others--were sent by God. That changed with the appearance of the Bab and Baha'u'llsh, ushered in the maturity of the human race. We are now ready to take on the responsibility of adulthood. Footnotes |

DAY 2462: Finish this sentence: Life is too short to… Life Is To Short Life is too short to Pray for guidance to overcome the negatives, to ask the right questions and find the answers for yourself. Become a seeker after truth, search out the facts and answer the questions raised by your search. |

Day 2064: What have you learned from blogging? What Have I Learned From Blogging? To write! If I can't think of a response to a prompt, or my mind says I don't know what to write about, I just set down and start writing. It doesn't matter what I put on the page, as long as part of the response is relevant to the prompt. True, there are times when I look at a prompt and nothing comes to mind. In those cases I have to write anyway. If the prompt doesn't arouse some sort of response, I have to start writing because I have to make some sort of entry. If the prompt doesn't elicit some type of response, I pick out a quote and write about that. At other times I review my goals of the past week, I don't like to do this because it's usually a very short and boring entry. The only time I don't make an entry are on those days I have medical appointments. On those days I usually spend most of the day out of the house at the doctor's office or waiting for a paratransit bus. |
‘Idál (Justice}, 14 Kamál (Perfection) 176 B.E. - Wednesday, August 14, 2019
Day 2063: "I think quotes are very dangerous things." Kate Bush Do you agree with this? Quotes are only dangerous if they are used inappropriately or one misquotes the author. I like quotes that are funny, thought provoking, and make me look at my own opinions. The biggest problems with quotes, especially those referring to political figures or celebrities, is misquoting, taking the quote out of the context of the discussion, or misunderstanding what the person intended to say. Everyone, and this includes celebrities and politicians, tends open their mouths before they put their brains in gear. This means that there is a good chance that the person will say something they didn't intend to say. It also means that the hearer will misinterpret what the person said or intended to say. |

DAY 2459: Every human has four endowments - self awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom... The power to choose, to respond, to change. Stephen Covey - What do you think? Spiritual Attributes Self-awareness, conscience, independence, will, and creative imagination are all attributes of the human soul. I separated independence from will because they are separate attributes that, like all the spiritual attributes, interact with humanity's dual nature. The human body is part of material creation, while the soul is spiritual entity. The soul is God's gift to the human body and lives on after the body dies. The soul is intended to reflect the attribute of God and, after death of the body, to ascend through the spiritual toward the Unknowable Essence that created the universe. While partnered with the body, on the material plane, the soul develops the divine attributes it will need in the realm of the spirit.
DAY 2062: “The best stories don't come from "good vs. bad" but "good vs. good.” Leo Tolstoy Agree or disagree and what do you think Tolstoy meant? Good Versus Its Antagonist The best stories are plots using good versus its antagonist. The antagonist of good can be any cultural concept or personal opinion that no longer contributes to the survival of the individual or group. Good is a positive because it contributes to the physical and/or spiritual survival of the individual or humanity. The antagonist of good is a negative because it doesn't contribute to the individual or groups survival. A superstition can be the antagonist of good. An outdated cultural concept can be the antagonist of good. When writing a story it's up to the author to define the antagonist to good. |
Kamál (Perfection}, 12 Kamál (Perfection) 176 B.E. - Monday, August 12, 2019
DAY 2458: Write about August - the good, the bad, the ugly, or the beautiful. Interesting August Triple digit temperatures Wind blowing trash down the street. There is something about August that makes a person want to sleep during the day and stay awake all night. It could be the triple digit temperatures that descend on the city in the after noon and go away about midnight. Nights are cooler in Las Vegas, but without a car there isn't many places I can go, which isn't a problem right now. I still have sever poems to finish before October 29, so staying up late writing or researching a poem is no problem. |
