Norma's Wanderings around a small section of Montana |
Can you really kill time? What happens when you say you are killing time? Is it the same as wasting time? In this era, wasting someone can mean the same as killing them. Interesting thought. So as we approach this last weekend of the summer, we are all anxious to just kill a little time. go fishing for the last time. Camping for the last time. Hiking for the last time. Swimming for the last time. Do these summer things for the last time before the real business of living comes back to bite us. The real business of survival in the Northern reaches of the hemisphere. The sunlight grows dimmer as the days grow shorter. We anticipate cooler days and nights. We try to think how to heat our homes. We wonder how we will make it through the long winter. But wait, you say, we are in the 21st century. We don't have to worry. We have central heat. We can go to the store. We have everything we need to stay warm and dry! Yes, indeed, we are blessed. So I digress. Let's relax and kill some time. Not feel guilty about soaking up some sun before the winter comes. Then we'll have some winter fun in the cold and snow. |
My friend came knocking on my door this afternoon. the museum was closed - it was supposed to be open. Hmm. Do you know why? Should we? I guess since we live right across the street, we should know this. Since we are volunteers once a week, we should know this. Since we are retired and don't work, we should know this. So we call powers that be, and tell her we will open the museum for our friend who has out of town friends with her. The least we can do since we live right across the street. Since we are volunteers and have the keys to the kingdom. Since we have the security codes. Since we are who we are. |
August is almost over! Is it true? Seems like summer just got started here in Montana. But yes - the daylight has changed - I can see the shadows lengthening, My garden is starting to produce. I just hope the tomatoes ripen before frost. I hope the corn comes on before frost. I hope, I hope, I hope. Gardening in Montana is always a dicey situation. Short growing season and lots of faith in God. |
So it goes like this - once you have had a set routine for 4 years, and it is the same thing for the same time each day, how do you change this? It is ingrained - like a callous - like an ingrown hair - like a part in your hair - like an addiction. It will take time. It is like giving up a bad habits except this is a good habit. Oh my, what a deal. Our dog died and we were used to walking her 4 times a day. A very set routine at set times of the day. She would not potty in the yard. She would only do it on a walk. So she had us well-trained. So she walked us 4 times a day. Now that is not needed. But we need to still do this so we won't gain 20 pounds we kept at bay by walking those 4 miles! |
