 April 11th Prompt Proverbs 3:5-6 5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. What does this popular Scripture passage mean to you? Has it had an impact on your life? April 12th Prompt Proverbs 3:7-8 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. 8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. What does it mean, health to thy navel and marrow to thy bones? April 13th prompt Proverbs 3:9-10 9 Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: 10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. What do these verses mean? Do you think they are talking about tithing? What do you think about tithing? April 14th prompt Proverbs 3:11-12 11 My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction: 12 For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. Write about these verses. April 15th prompt Proverbs 3:13-18 13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. 14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. 15 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. 16 Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. 17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her. Write about the value of wisdom. What is it worth to you? |
April 5th prompt Proverbs 2:16-19 16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words; 17 Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God. 18 For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead. 19 None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life. Explain and write about the strange woman these verses are talking about. How can these verses be applied to our life? April 6th prompt Proverbs 2:20-22 20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous. 21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it. 22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it. What does this mean when it says the upright shall dwell in the land but the wicked shall be cut off and rooted out of it? April 7th prompt Proverbs 3:1-2 1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: 2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. How do we obtain a long peaceful life? Is this speaking of a physical or eternal life? What are your thoughts? April 8th prompt Proverbs 3:3-4 3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: 4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. What do you think these 2 verses are saying? |
April 1st prompt Since April 1st is April Fool's Day, What does the Bible say about fools? The Bible has so much to say about fools. I could probably write a Bible study on it. Maybe I should. Without taking a lot of time looking up verse by verse right now, there are a few things that come right to the top of my head. A fool says in his heart there is no God. A fool is full of folly and lacks wisdom. A fool mocks those who seek wisdom. They are quick to fall for and into mischief. The foolish man does not build on good foundations. April 2nd prompt Proverbs 2:9-11 9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path. 10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; 11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: Write about these verses and what it means to have an understanding heart. I think these verses mean that when we find pleasure in learning and it is more to us than just filling our head with facts, we will gain understanding and common sense to go with that knowledge. We will understand and value every good path. Because we know how to put our knowledge to good use and apply what we learn to real-life situations, we will be able to make good choices and decisions and be able to avoid trouble. April 4th prompt Proverbs 2:12-15 12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things; 13 Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; 14 Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; 15 Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths: When we get wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, These verses describe the type of person we will be delivered from. What are your thoughts about this? When we have good understanding, we will know not to get ourselves into trouble with this type of person. We can avoid it. It will also help keep us from being tricked or fooled by such a person.  |
March 25 prompt Proverbs 1:20-22 20 Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets: 21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying, 22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? I find it interesting that the writer describes Wisdom as a person. Why do you think that is? What does this mean to you? Just from reading it without doing a lot of research, I would personally interpret it as speaking about the spirit of Wisdom. Since wisdom can be a spirit, it would explain referring to it in person form. March 26 prompt Proverbs 1:23-27 23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. 24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; 25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; 27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Who or what are these verses talking about? If we turn our backs on God, he turns his back on us. We will suffer as a result. March 28 prompt Proverbs 1:28-31 28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: 29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord: 30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. 31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way and be filled with their own devices. What do you think these verses are talking about? When God turns his back on people, he will ignore their cries for help and will allow them to suffer the natural consequences of their own actions. |
March 22 prompt Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Explain this verse in your own words. Fools think the know everything and don't need instruction. they don't like receiving instruction. They tend to be sensitive when someone thinks they are foolish because they don't see themselves that way. On the other hand, those who fear God will love instruction and knowledge. They will seek after it. They desire wisdom. They fear God with a reverential fear and don't want to offend God. March 23 prompt Proverbs 1:8-9 8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: 9 For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck. In your own words, describe what this means to you. I think the chains about the neck refer to boundaries. When we have good boundaries, grace rests upon us like an ornament. If we have good parents, they will teach us good manners and boundaries. March 24 prompt Proverbs 1:10-19 10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. 11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: 12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: 13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: 14 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse: 15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: 16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. 17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. 18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives. 19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof. What can we learn from these verses? How can we apply this to our own life? Don't go with people who get into mischief, cheat, steal, and kill. This is to protect ourselves from getting caught up in mischief with them. This kind of lifestyle will end up destroying their own lives in the end. Consider the lifestyle of a gang banger. They end up usually dead or in prison unless God intervenes and changes their life. When you are greedy of gain, you will pay for it in the end. |
