Come! Join my journey.
Hi everybody. It's a beautiful day here in central Virginia and I am sitting at my computer trying to find my way around this website. I joined over a year ago, but life got in the way and my paid subscription ran out. However, re-upped my membership and now I am more committed than ever to get my book written and published. I decided it was time. I'm not getting any younger. So, if anyone is interested in my progress stay tuned here. I plan to work on this book every day and then post here on my blog the progress I make and the interesting encounters I make along the way. After all you never know who or what my characters are going to run into.

Hello everyone, I hope you are all having a great and wonderful day. The weather is fantastic here and my mood matches all the sunshine today. I went to my Hill City Writers' group, and it was amazing. Even more so than last week, and I thought last week was fabulous. Like I told you I was incredibly nervous about reading my work (and it showed) but, I read the first five pages of chapter 1 and the critiques I received were extremely helpful. Plus, everyone there was very encouraging. So, the bottom line is I wasn't laughed out of the building, and I will be going back again. So, for now, I must take their advice and redo some of the chapters because I broke a couple of rules. It would be ok if I were Steven King or James Patterson, but I have a long way to go before that.
Have a GREAT rest of your day everyone and I will keep you posted.

Love the Journey!

Hi All,
I have been busy since my last post. I have two chapters of my first draft done and I have printed out the first five pages to read at my new writers' group. I am super nervous. I have never let other writers read my work before much less read my work "baby" before. If I can get through this I can get through anything. As long as they don't laugh me out of the building I think I will be fine. Just keep sending good vibes my way between now and Tuesday evening so I don't chicken out. I will keep you posted on how I am doing.

Have a great rest of your day!

Well, I want to share some good news with you. I have joined a local writers' group here in Lynchburg, VA. It is a critique group that I think will be a great help to me. There are several published writers there and they all give good feedback. Plus I think it will hold me accountable. They want everyone to read so I will have to work on my book so I will always have something. Another great thing is that there is one man there that has another group that meets on Sat. afternoon at a pup downtown at 2 p.m. that tosses around ideas. I think that will be most interesting so I think I will check that out. I know Roanoke had a great writers' group and I like all the people there but it didn't give me quite the same feel this one does. Now that I am meeting new people here with the same interest I think I may actually find I like it here.

I have also finished the first draft of Chapter 1. I am not sure I started the novel off in the right place but feels right to me. I think it is a good thing to ask my new writer's group.

Well I hope everyone has a great day.

Ok, so I promised myself and, most importantly, that I would post on this blog daily to keep you updated on my progress, and unfortunately, I have not followed through with that promise. But I am now committed to finishing my first draft by the end of the year. I don't know if I will make it, but I work well under pressure. As mentioned before, I checked out The Novel Factory and am learning a lot. It is like a whole writing class and publishing help all in one. So hey, how can I not get this done? I think it will help me a lot. I have always written by the seat of my pants, and it has never failed to get me into trouble I could not write myself out of. This software, however, keeps me focused and gives me a roadmap to follow. I think I am starting to sound like a commercial for the website, and I don't mean to. I am excited that I now have a plan to follow to get me from beginning to end. So now I promise to keep you posted. Maybe not every day, but definitely when I have accomplished another milestone.

Have fun writing and I will talk to you again soon.

Hello again,

It has been a few days and I am sorry I haven't kept you up to date. I have been working on my novel though. I found a website called the Novel Factory and it is helping me get my thoughts in order. So what time I have had to spend at the computer, that is where I have been. I have worked on the premise of my story and have my "elevator pitch" done. the next step is to outline the plot so I can write the synopsis. The creator of the website said that is the best way to keep on track and not go running in the woods. If anyone here has any feedback on the Novel Factory or on creating a plot outline please let me know. I have this book in me, in the deepest part of me and I am trying to find the best way to get it out. I guess I am trying to say that I need all the help I can get.

Hi Everyone,
I must say this week had thrown so much stuff in my way that I have gotten absolutely nothing done that I wanted to get done to my writing. I did do some research for my antagonist but I had hoped to be farther along than I am. Sometimes my brain skips around so much that I can't seem to get anything done. If anyone has any suggestions to remedy that please let me know. I could use all the help I can get.

See you soon.

Sunday I talked about starting to finally follow my dream of becoming a writer. I promised to keep you posted on my progress by posting here on my blog every day. I didn't get to post anything yesterday because as I said, life keeps getting in the way. However, I didn't let that stop me from working on the characters for my story and I found that the antagonist is harder to get a handle on than the hero of the story. Does anyone else have that problem? I mean I know what the hero wants. He wants to prove his mother is not crazy, and prove to himself that he is not crazy as well, and in doing so save the planet. But the bad guy. I know what he wants. He wants to destroy the world for the greed of power. He craves power like a drugy needs a fix. It's the motivation that is harder to nail down. I think once I have that nailed down I will be well on my way to getting my outline done. Wish me luck today as I work on that.

Talk to you tomorrow.
