This is the first blog entry for me. Hopefully I will get it right, or at least head in that direction.
I am enjoying this community immensely. I have found a few kindred souls, and so far everyone has been welcoming. I am enjoying reviewing other's work. I hope to learn as I go from the reviews of my work. It is fun to see other's points of view, and inspires me to try to do my best.
I am looking forward to my journey here on Writing.com
May 1, 2023 Update: I am using this blog as a place for my Take Up Your Cross, Andre's Blogging Challenges, Blogging Circle of Friends, and Welcome to My Reality (as you can probably see from the titles)
I agree with your point about not being afraid to ruffle feathers and be a little countercultural (especially when the thing we're advocating is true to Christ's example). Where it gets tricky, I think, is when Christians mix up the message of, "love the sinner, hate the sin." There are a fair number of Christians who, far too often, hate the sinner (or at least look down on them). I think there are also a lot of people in the Christian church who don't acknowledge their own sin and brokenness, or play a value-judgement game where they espouse certain sins (yours) as being worse than others (theirs).
There's a great quote from Archibald MacLeish that goes, "Religion is at its best when it makes us ask hard questions of ourselves. It is at its worst when we deludes us into thinking we have all the answers for everybody else."
I feel like a lot of Christians (not all, certainly) fall into that latter category. And it's hard to love others when you spend so much of your time judging them.
