First of all, I should warn you it is not the traditional interactive story that you may have seen here at Writing.Com.How will this work? I will paint you a picture, or more accurately a scenario. Each member will select a character. To be successful in choosing your favorite character, please do so quickly. A profile will be provided for each character. Now it gets interesting. Using the profile of your character and the scenario provided, please write a story from the point of view of your character. Why should we do this? Cause it is fun! Well, besides the fun factor, members can vote on their favorite story and I will award gp according to the votes. PRIZES: First - 1,500 gp 6,000 gp Second - 1,000 gp 2,500 gp Third - 500 gp 1,500 gp Thank you to Tehanu for a donation of 10,000gp for prizes.SCENARIO: That morning seemed like any other as Josh West climbed into his green late model holden ute to drive to work. On his way to work, Josh pulled in at the garage to get some petrol. While he waited for the tank to fill, he shared a few words with Jake Moon. Josh paid for his fuel in cash and with a friendly wave he left. Samantha Mann was working at the fruit shop when Josh came in. He seemed preoccupied at the time and only spared a few words before leaving a few minutes later with a small bag of apples. Graham O’Neil was surprised when Josh did not turn up for work that day. Normally he was a reliable employee and this was out of character for him. He tried to contact Josh’s ex-wife Chloe, but she did not return his call. On the second day that Josh did not turn up for work, Graham went around to his house. He was surprised to find his ute still in the driveway. There appeared to be no sign of Josh, so deeply concerned now, he contacted the local police. Detectives Frank Mills and his partner Sarah Jones arrived and forced entry into the house. Nothing appeared to be disturbed. All of Josh’s clothes were still in his closet and the pantry and fridge were full of food. A case file was started looking at various aspects of Josh West’s disappearance. The main focus at this stage is kidnapping. No suspects or motive has been identified as yet. Your role is to decide WHO DONE IT! SETTING: Bundaberg is a city in Queensland, Australia. The majority of residents within the city enjoy a modern urban lifestyle. It is surrounded on all sides by bush and rural properties. These farms are mainly focused on producing sugar cane with others diversifying into beef production and crops. Surrounding Bundaberg are many small country towns, such as Childers and Gin Gin. These three towns form a triangle with Bundaberg at the northern tip. Childers and Gin Gin form the other points of the triangle. Left (west) is Gin Gin and Right (east) is Childers. CHARACTER PROFILES: Victim Josh West – 32 years old, Divorced, 2 children (twin girls 7yo) Employed as a Carpenter in a large building company. Hair: Blonde Eyes: Blue Height: 182 cm Build: Slim some muscle definition in arms and back Hobbies: Active person plays rugby league, enjoys jogging a few times a week, enjoys having a few drinks with friends. Loves to spend as much time as possible with his twin daughters. Still loves his ex-wife even though divorced for 2 years. Lives on a rural property that has been in his family for generations on the outskirts of Childers. Ex-Wife Chloe West – 30 years old, Works – Secretary to a senior partner of a law firm Hair: Blonde Eyes: Hazel Height: 173 cm Build: Slim and fit Hobbies: enjoys socialising with friends, takes kids to sport activities, enjoys visiting art galleries. Lives in a 3 bedroom house in the heart of Bundaberg that is close to where she works and the children’s school. Enjoys the social city lifestyle. Her boyfriend is James Crisp, 43 years old, and a partner and her boss in the law firm Hair: Brown – distinguished grey streaks at sides Eyes: Brown Height: 185 cm Build: slightly overweight, not active Hobbies: enjoys stamp collecting and visiting art galleries; enjoys the thrill of winning in the court room; aggressive personality. Enjoys winning. Lives in a restored old federation style home. Enjoys entertaining business associates at home while enjoying their envy of his lifestyle. Law Firm – Crisp, Dale & Watts, Lawyers - situated in Bundaberg, on Bourbong Street (main street of town) Partners – James Crisp, Jordon Dale and Matt Watts Staff – Chloe West, Secretary to James Crisp Sally Shaw, Secretary to Jordon Dale (Chloe West’s friend) Tarni White, Secretary to Matt Watts, 18 years old Jay Harp, Junior Lawyer, 27 years old Jayne Brown, Junior Lawyer, 23 years old Chris Church, File Clerk, 21 years old (brother to Brandon Church) Children of Josh and Chloe West Twin 1 Kate West – 7 year old, Student – Grade 2 POV by - darkskye Twin 2 Mary West – 7 year old, Student – Grade 2 Identical Twins Hair: Blonde Eyes: Blue Build: Slim and good looking children Well behaved but enjoy causing mischief with people mistaking them for each other. Eyes: Steely Blue Height: 155cm Build: short and podgy Enjoys owning his own company and spending time with his wife. Hobbies: enjoys quiet evenings at home with friends Has a small property of 20 acres only 10km outside of Gin Gin. Boss’s Wife Sharon O’Neil – 56 years old, handles paper work for her husband’s business Hair: Silvery grey, neatly kept Eyes: Brown Height: 157 cm Build: short and round, enjoys own cooking Hobbies: enjoys crafts when she is not helping her husband with the paperwork for the business. Also enjoys spending quiet evenings at home with friends. Employee Gary Leigh – 37, Foreman of site, nice guy, married w/- 3 kids (12, 10, 5) His Wife - Kristy Leigh – 32, pretty, home duties Gary – brown eyes, brown hair, Beard Kristy – Hazel eyes, ash blonde hair (waist length) Lives in a small 2 bedroom cottage in Gin Gin. Employee Sara Conner – 18, Apprentice Carpenter, single, pretty but acts like one of the guys – blue eyes, curly black hair (pulled back in a pony tail) Hobbies – breeds poisonous snakes (fav- Taipan and King Brown Snakes) Lives with her parents in a modest home in Bundaberg. Her father built a shed in the backyard for her pets. Employee Terry Smythe – 28, Trade Carpenter, single, loner - brown eyes, brown short hair (crewcut) – he is just a bit boring and keeps to him self Lives at home with his parents on a small acreage on the edge of Childers. Employee Brandon Church – 25, Labourer, has a girlfriend but workmates haven’t met her, quick temper, not liked by workmates, dislikes Josh West - hard blue eyes, dirty blonde stringy long hair (ties back in a pony tail when he is working, otherwise leaves it hang loose) He lives in a caravan which is never sited very long at any one place. Usually stays at rest areas where he can stay for a night or two. ** Josh West’s Friends Kent Mann ,29 years old, married, w/- 1 kid works in a post office - married for 7 years, hazel eyes, red curly hair, tall and sloppy dresser His wife Samantha Mann, 27years old, works in a Fruit Shop - brown eyes, brown hair, very overweight and short. Prefers to wear baggy clothes. Lauren Mann – only child (6 years old) Lives in a 3 bedroom cottage in the heart of Childers. Trent Sandersen, 34 years old, married, no kids, works as a bulldozer operator - brown eyes, brown hair, part aboriginal on his mother’s side of the family, wants to have children Mandy Sandersen, 32 years old, home duties - blue eyes, carrot coloured hair, family disowned her when she married Trent. Family has Irish heritage. Wants to have children. Live in a housing commission home in Bundaberg. Andy Sears, 36 years old, single, never worked spends most of his time at the pub and on the Pokies – possible gambling problem - green eyes, brown hair. Short and stocky build No fixed address. Usually bunks down at friend’s homes. Otherwise stays in his car which is a 1970’s Holden Panel Van. ** Jake Moon, 22 years old –single, Petrol Pump Attendant, likeable fellow makes friends with everyone – usually seen with headphones on his ears and an ipod in his pocket. - brown eyes, creative hairstyle ( colour changes weekly, sometimes spiky, or in other creative hairstyles) One of the chemists largest customers for hair care products. Stays in a small flat at the back of the Garage – gets free rent in exchange for acting as caretaker. ** Chloe West’s Friends Sally Shaw, 28 years old, works as a Secretary in the law firm, single career woman, no kids - deep blue eyes, long eyelashes, brunette – dresses professionally and enjoys dining out with friends Lives in a small housing complex on the outskirts of Bundaberg. Each unit is stylish and upmarket. The complex has the usual amenities – tennis court, pool, spa and gym. Rachel Belleview, 29 years old, babysitter and friend - grey/blue eyes, long blonde hair with alternating red and black stripes, wears granny glasses more for effect that to help her eyesight. Wears mainly caftans and sarongs. The twins enjoy her music, which is usually hippy style. Lives in a communal house with like-minded people in Childers. Strange music is usually heard floating out of the front door and windows. Despite appearances, the house is always kept neat and tidy. ** Police – Bundaberg (servicing Gin Gin and Childers areas also) Detective Frank Mills – in charge of case, finds many possible suspects, follows the letter of law. Sticks to the rules - brown eyes, brown short hair, divorced with no contact with his children, 49 years old, hoping to see out the remainder of his police service with a good record Lives in a 2 bedroom cottage in an older part of Bundaberg. Detective Sarah Jones – partner to Frank Mills, has a close association with the victim but doesn’t share this information, was placed in foster care with the victim’s family through most of her childhood. (foster sister to Josh West) - 29 years old, unmarried, heart shape face, sad blue eyes, mousy brown hair, Lives in a modern duplex that is in a new building estate on the ourskirts of Bundaberg.
