I don't know about either, but I do know there are gazillions of litereary references in ST, almost to the point of being annoying w/ Picard, so that may be what those references are. Maybe I'm just pessimistic. I do know the ST "world view" doesn't seem to allow for much biblical-sort of stuff . . . but that doesn't mean they can't do that, every show is different & every actor & director etc is different.
