You've been transported to Europe, ca 1000 AD. Can you survive, or better yet, thrive?

What would I do?
I'd choose to land in Europe, because of the impending invasion of England in 1066. Belgium or Germany might be OK. I am a woman, so I'd have to try to get to a convent. I'd have to play mute or repeat a few Latin prayers I know to move me to safety. If I were lucky enough to get to a convent, I'd lie low until I knew the language, doing scullery work if necessary. Once I knew how to speak, I'd approach the Prioress and ask if there was writing or bookkeeping to be done for the House, to get off my knees! I'd work slowly at first to try to get familiar with their parchment and ink, very precious commodities. It would take years, likely, but over time I'd become her faithful servant and perhaps her secretary.

What's your idea?
