Because happiness is boring!

No really, I think that the beauty of a tragedy is the human condition in the face of adversity is our greatest strength. People can gain so much inspiration and hope from relating to someone else in a tragic experience. War and death and tragedy bring out the best of humans. WWII gave us huge bounds in technology and ended the Great Depression.

Not to mention Shakespeare's tragedies. Why is everyone dying so entertaining? I would suppose that it because there is a dark side in all of us, that side that wants to fight to protect what we have. These awful scenes really speak to that side of us in a more accepted manner than actually going out and killing someone ourselves.

It's just a few thoughts I had, any other ideas?
