A cold gray dawn looms


a tree sighs


Atop a desolate hill


standing watch


oer the land


as sol rises


dawn meets night


they coalesce


casting an eerie scene


as the sky


changes subtly


a suffusion of light


engulfs the tree


then vanishes


the lone sentinel


once more stands


in the cold gray dawn
