Interesting topic! I have wondered about this as well.

I would have found it difficult to find a husband in Jane Austen's time. My lineage, which was important back then, is fine. I can also speak more than one language. But I can't play any instruments, I most definitely cannot sing, I am allergic to certain fabrics, and I have no sense of style.

I also have a real interest in what would have been men's things back then: politics, for example, law, economics. And I am not very obedient. I, too, would have needed a Mr. Darcy.
