Like many of you out there, I suspect, I'm trying to improve my fiction writing so I'll one day reach a publishable level. As part of that journey I'm trying to apply deliberate practice to my writing. This basically means that I focus less on writing stories, especially longer ones, for the time being and more on breaking the craft of writing fiction into smaller sub-skill and practicing them through exercises (and to some extend short stories).
I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with this approach or with writing exercises in general and how it worked out for you?
If you have any comments on what you think is the best way to practice writing, don't hold back either.
