Depends on what the notifications are and why they were sent. Often no response is needed.

Some are informational - this happened. Responding is optional, generally not expected. Most of this category happened without notifications until recently. Fans, ratings without reviews, Likes/reactions, sometimes tagged items.

Some are informational in case you want to do something with the information. Birthday and account anniversary notifications are sent by the system, not the person in the notification.

Some are invitational - those you can respond to if you want at the location you're being invited to -- the forum post reply or tagging location. Depends on what's going on at the location. Sometimes even forum post replies and tagging are just informational.
