Like Sonali mentioned, you can join a group, review someone, write something for a contest, or join an activity.
If you aren't quite ready to review, and want a bit more time to read and look around, perhaps read someone's work you like and send them a quick email introducing yourself and telling them what you like about their story or their writing. Basically, just make a new friend! That might make you feel more relaxed about getting to know the site and the members. I'm happy to chat any time I'm online.
