What are you reading? |
This month a weird series of events have dropped three books on my lap that are in dire need--at least to me--of reading. I am, for the first time in my life, reading books written by a father and sons. If the ST didn't give you a hint, then I lost you somewhere along the way... 1. Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill It has been recommended I read this novel on the premise that it is totally awesome. Going with that, I can see what all the praise is for. I am not even half way through reading and the whole time the word 'hypnotic' drummed in my mind. Really good and twisted stuff and I am glad Joe Hill made a spectacular debut. Biggest regret is I read it a decade after it's published. No perfect time than the present. 2. The Shining by Stephen King This is a re-read. I read for the first time 10 years ago. My book club has chosen to discuss the book and I am eager to hop on board because there's a green mile's (yes, pun intended) of wonderful commentary to share on a great literary novel of the times that passes for one of the best horror novels ever written. 3. Sleeping Beauties by Stephen King and Owen King I don't know to much of this book. To be frank, it came in new at my work and I had to put it on reserve. So I figured, why not? I am going in real blind and have been interested in reading it because a) it's a heavy-duty 600+ page Stephen King novel, and b) I have neither read anything by Owen King, much less a father-son collaboration. Reading the mysterious summary makes me want to dig into the chapters and see what horrors are lurking. 1700 pages of King this month? Bring it on!, I say. Perfect reads for the wonderful month of October to come, and what better time than to spend it with the Master (and Masterlettes?)of Horror, Stephen King and crew. |
