Are you asking about WdC contests or contests out in the real world? You and I started writing around the same time and I started off entering a bunch of contests. They each cost me a few bucks and I got nothing in return except experience at using Submittable. Several months ago I started checking out this website and entering contests here. It doesn't cost anything and usually winning includes getting a valuable review. My writing has improved over just this short period of time because of all the reviews. So I would recommend practicing here first. My other question is what do you hope to gain from entering a contest? Perhaps you're dying to be published, maybe you just need recognition of your skill, or it could be any number of things. If you can figure out what you want from it, you can be very selective in what contests you enter, based on the prizes (vs. cost, if any). A lot of people write better than you and a lot of people don't. That will always be the case no matter how good you get. If entering a contest is on your bucket list, there's no point in waiting. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** |
