Personal, handwritten letters are such a wonderful thing to do for the holidays. I loved doing it until I couldn't keep writing that much.
For something like this, I've always just used the month and year (that way, you avoid the disputes of "hey, why did he write your letter first" kind of thing.) Everybody gets a December letter. I don't find it detracts at all from the message and intent of what you're doing. If you'd prefer to put specific dates, northernwrites gave excellent advice. .
