By international convention, anything you write you retain copyright on until seventy years beyond your death. However, since it is very easy to copy/paste from the web, and since not all countries observe the convention (which is agreed by treaty, so legally enforceable) you do take some risk. You are free to post your work elsewhere in addition to here.
Note that if the work is marked 'public' (the default), even non-members can see it, and some publishers will consider this as 'previously published', something you should consider when posting a novel or short story you later hope to get published by a traditional publisher.
The copyright notice that appears beneath your work on this site is actually not necessary, but is used to discourage plagiarism, copyright theft and other copyright infringements.
