It's funny you mention the genre (really the item type on the site), as there are a few places on the site where that information isn't visible. The brief description might give you that information, as seen in this example I included here. Otherwise, you won't have any idea what type of piece it is until you click on it.
For me, I actually don't like seeing the type of piece it is in a brief description. I find it can color my thoughts on a piece before I even start. If the brief description conveys the predominant tone/mood of a piece (especially through strong, active sentences), I'm open to clicking on it regardless of what kind of item it is. That kind of thinking drives how I create brief descriptions and titles. It certainly influenced how I approached this piece. (Related: Using the bitem link doesn't always give you the item type/genre information you might be looking for, so a brief description really makes a difference.)
