Bugs are evil nasty critters that get into the site and break it; Help us exterminate! |
Amazon owns Goodreads. As such, they would never limit Goodreads access to the product information. Outside of Amazon's own properties, they rate limit calls to the product information database based on sales from the site calling for the information. Unfortunately, we don't sell a whole lot for Amazon, so we are pretty low on their totem pole when it comes to allotted resources. After we check product information with Amazon, I store the resulting information in a database cache on our servers so we don't have to keep checking it over and over... but I do have the cache set to reset every month or so in order to catch pricing updates, etc. I did have a small random timing element in there to, but I've added some additional random elements to make sure we don't try to re-cache everything if someone pages through a couple dozen pages of product reviews. I did see your follow up that it's working now ... so we must have gotten past the timing of instant limiter. Hopefully my caching changes keeps us from bumping into it again. Best, ~~SM
