I went the free ebook self-publishing route a few years ago getting three of my novels on the major arteries out there offering such works for sale. Half the job of making money is doing one's own marketing.
Having a professional computer career under my belt, I did my own Facebook page dedicated to the books, my own author website, and Twitter account for promotion. My weak link in the chain was networking and fostering an author's support group.
I did find a very helpful resource in the form of Writers Weekly. They publish as well as offering that free resource for those interested in getting the job done.
At the time, Amazon and a host of others allowed authors to submit and have their works made available to the public for free. Some don't tell unless you ask, if you gave them some (or all) of the rights to resell your book or turn it into an audio version or screen play.
