I pride myself on my poetry resistance. You show me a stanza and i'll show you an unmoved stone. Embrace it. However, if you're more of an inclusive and accepting sort, then getting good with it requires immersion. You might never achieve that grandmaster late night poetry reader at the cafe level, but you'll certainly be able to defend yourself in an impromptu haiku battle or seed it into your prose as necessary.
