I know not this author, however there should be plenty of resources out there describing legal proceedings. If i were writing up a trial and restraining myself to make it civilized and without random flesh-eating encounters, i would start by watching a few on youtube or the like. Sitting in on them would be better, but we all have limits to our time. Then I would reach out to people with specific questions. Could be you know a few trial lawyers, or you might happen across a messaging board where they exchange info.
Also, it doesn't hurt to read what other authors have written about the process. Likely, they've identified the exciting and compelling components of a trial and emphasized them in their writing.
