The official Writing.Com Content Rating Support forum: questions, rating adjustments, etc. |
Recently, I felt obliged to offer a friend the following guidance: This is a more sensitive matter, but I must advise you with the greatest of sincerity and gravitas. NEVER use the "n..." word in the Newsfeed or in a forum. The ratings in these public areas are quite restrictive. I am aware that it is a privileged word. You may use it socially among your peers. I believe that it will eventually lose its sting, although I may not live to see the day. You may have heard the expression "polite society". Any society of peers is polite according to its own customs. The broader society, not sharing the same customs as individual peer groups, must be more reserved in order to achieve civility. I know you did not intend to breach the content standards of the Newsfeed. I sincerely recommend that you copy the comment, delete the current version, edit the privileged reference and restore the comment. Then you can chalk it up to experience and move on to the next thing. I misremembered something about the CRS from my earliest days on the Newsfeed. Her usage cropped up in a Comment, not a forum post. By the rules given in Writing.com 101, it seems as though this what the filters are for. Still, I stand by my reservations about the controversial word. Is there a rule I am missing, or does any word fly, subject to filtering? Thanks |
