Free space on the hard drive doesn't mean anything about space available for the temp files -- although it could mean the allotted space for temp files could be increased. Software is restricted to using the allotted space, which is a limit set somewhere in the OS guts. If it's calculated proportional to the size of the hard drive, it may be too small.

I think I'd hold off on the flickering reset option until after you've looked at the issues I mentioned, and if they didn't help. It sounds more like a running-out-of-space problem.

For instance, if you tried to watch a streamed video, I'd think with this problem you'd get lots of lagging, where the video freezes and the circling icon comes on until it's ready to go again.
