”Get out of the car! Now!” The policeman shone his torch right in to the startled man’s eyes. “Move it!” The policeman yanked the door of the car open. It was clear what he wanted the man to do. Meanwhile the policeman’s partner was covering him, pointing his gun at the man, following his every move. The man had no choice. Warily he got out of the car, raising his hands in the air. The policeman shoved the man brusquely against the hood of the car. His hands splayed out, his legs spread. The man tried to protest as the policeman started to pat him down. “Shut up!” the policeman hissed. Suddenly things happened. Fast. The man fell to the ground. A scuffle broke out. A gunshot in the air. A punch. A yell in pain. A gasp for air. Then silence. The policeman’s partner had a bewildered look on his face. He wasn’t sure what exactly had just happened. It had all been a frenzied blur. Now the man was huddled on the ground in a fetal position. The policeman was crouching over him, breathing fast. His knee on the man’s throat. Time stood still. How long had they remained like this? The policeman’s partner snapped out of the spell. “Buddy, what just happened?!” He went over to the policeman and the man. He bent down to feel the man’s pulse. “Buddy…..there’s going to be trouble…” |
